The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom introduces a host of new abilities, including the innovative Fuse ability. We’ll detail how to Fuse weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

When The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild arrived back in 2017, it was widely regarded as the Nintendo Switch’s best title and one of the best games of all time. It’s hardly surprising then that the sequel, Tears of the Kingdom, is looking to be one of 2023’s biggest releases.

While keeping the art style and certain features that made the original so successful, Tears of the Kingdom also added some new abilities to open up even more possibilities. One of these is the Fuse ability, allowing players to think outside the box when it comes to weapon creation.

Here’s everything we know about the Fuse ability and Fusing weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

What is Fuse ability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Fuse is a new ability in Tears of the Kingdom that allows Link to combine items together to create different weapons. Fuse can be used to make modifications to a weapon, or transform it into something that looks and functions completely differently.

For example, players can Fuse a tree branch with a rock to form a makeshift hammer. Previously, we saw Zelda producer, Eiji Aonuma, strap a Puffshroom to Link’s shield which created a smokescreen when hit by an enemy. This led to the opportunity for a stealth attack on the blinded foe.

The Fuse ability opens up the door for plenty of weird and wonderful creations, allowing players to get creative when crafting weapons for any situation.

How to Fuse items in Tears of the Kingdom

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can Fuse the item they are currently holding with another object found lying around the map. To Fuse weapons and items, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Equip the weapon or item you want to be the base of your creation.
  2. Activate the Fuse ability by holding down L and selecting it from the wheel.
  3. Highlight the object you want to Fuse.
  4. Select Y or ZL to combine the object with your weapon or shield.

The same process can also be applied to a bow, creating new ammo types with unique effects. For example, White Chuchu Jelly creates Freeze Arrows that hold enemies in place when hit. Keese eyeballs, on the other hand, create very useful homing arrows.

How to un-Fuse items in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

In case you Fused two items by mistake or didn’t get what you were expecting, you can un-Fuse items in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. To do this, you need to head to Tarrey Town and speak to Pelison, the child Goron you met in Breath of the Wild. It costs 20 Rupies to un-Fuse items and you get the original materials back.

You can also un-Fuse weapons and items through the item menu, by selecting the ‘Destroy Fuse Material’ option. This will give you your original weapon back, but will destroy whatever item you attached to it completely.
