The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is shaping up to be the most highly anticipated video game release of 2023. Nintendo fans are eager to get their hands on Tears of the Kindom, so here’s the official release date along with important details.

Given the immense popularity and success of Breath of the Wild, it’s no surprise that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is one of the most anticipated video game releases of 2023.

The Zelda franchise is Nintendo’s crown jewel and their upcoming title will act as a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Practically everyone who owns a Nintendo Switch is looking forward to Tears of the Kingdom so we’ve decided to break down the game’s release.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom release date

Nintendo confirmed that the release date for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is May 12, 2023.

Tears of the Kingdom has been teased for some time now, with Nintendo initially announcing the sequel to Breath of the Wild at E3 2019.

At E3 2021 Nintendo revealed a 2022 release date, which was eventually pushed back to 2023, giving us the launch date of May 12.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom plot details

As a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild, players can expect some of the core gameplay mechanics and plot details to carry over to Tears of the Kingdom.

Little is currently known about the Tears of the Kingdom plot, but if it takes place after the events of Breath of the Wild, then it’s safe to expect that Zelda will have a larger role to play considering Link successfully freed her from Calamity Ganon.

Speaking of Calamity Ganon, it’ll be interesting to discover who the antagonist of Tears of the Kingdom could be. It’s entirely possible that Ganon or some variation of the iconic Zelda villain returns, but perhaps a new threat will emerge.

Tears of the Kingdom players can expect the same open-world freedom and in-depth exploration that debuted in Breath of the Wild. However, it won’t be exactly the same as Nintendo will surely innovate in certain areas and add new and intriguing mechanics.

One of these new mechanics is Link’s glowing arm which grants him access to new abilities, similar to the Sheikah Slate. In addition, the three trailers reveal a ton of weapons including swords, shields, and axes that you’ll be able to equip to Link.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailer seen above arrived on September 13, 2022. It is the most recent trailer and it gave Zelda fans their first in-depth look at gameplay for the upcoming Nintendo Switch experience.

While the trailer only provided a glimpse at what’s to come, we do get a look at the scenery both across Hyrule and directly above it. The trailer showcases Link diving fearlessly from the floating islands above Hyrule to take on the challenges that lie in wait down below.
