How to play Cyberpunk 2077 early on Xbox

Players will finally be able to get their hands on the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 on December 10, but Xbox owners can access the game early with a simple trick.

Cyberpunk 2077 was first announced in 2012 and overcame several setbacks and delays to make it to consoles and PC in 2020. It was created by CD Projekt Red, the developers of 2015’s widely acclaimed The Witcher 3, so players have been desperate to dive into Night City.

While certain reviewers and content creators have had early access to the game, for the rest of us, it launches on December 10th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4/5, Google Stadia, and PC.

If you play on Xbox and can’t wait a few hours more, there’s a simple trick you can pull off to play Cyberpunk 2077 early.

How to play Cyberpunk early on Xbox

To play the game early, you need to change your location. New Zealand is several hours ahead, so they have access to the game already. To trick your Xbox into thinking you’re in NZ, follow these steps.

  1. Press the Xbox button.
  2. Scroll across to Profile & System.
  3. Select the System menu.
  4. Click on Language & location.
  5. Scroll down to Location.
  6. Change the location to New Zealand

This will give you some extra time to build your character before entering Night City with an incredibly detailed character creator. Then, find out if Cyberpunk 2077 has been worth the wait.

Once the game has been released in your country, you should switch it back to your own region. To do this, follow the steps again, and set the location back to the original one.

This is a common trick, and it was even used to play Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War early, and no account bans from Microsoft have been reported. So, go ahead, but please don’t be a spoil-sport and post footage or spoilers on social media; it’ll only take away other players’ enjoyment.
