After years of requests from fans, Warhorse Studios have finally lifted the lid on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. So, here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming RPG, including its release window, platforms, and more.

2024 has already provided some stellar RPGs including Dragon’s Dogma 2, and fans can now look forward to the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 later this year. The medieval RPG will be a direct sequel to 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance, which has earned a cult following over the years.

The original earned praise for being a realistic and grounded RPG that provided a faithful recreation of 15th-century Bohemia. All these elements are set to return in the sequel albeit in a fresh new open-world environment.

On that note, here’s everything you need to know about Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, including its release window, and more.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 release window

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be released by the end of 2024, as confirmed during the official game reveal video. The devs are yet to provide a concrete release date, but they have confirmed that it’ll be dropping this year.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 platforms

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will be available on Xbox Series XIS, PS5, and PC.

The game looks set to skip the last generation of consoles, which is hardly surprising considering the original had its fair share of performance struggles on PS4 and Xbox One. With the sequel amping things up in the visuals department, it’s easy to see why the devs have decided to stick with current-gen machines.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 story & setting

The open world is much larger in scope.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 takes place in 15th-century Bohemia, a medieval setting drenched in civil war and internal strife. Unlike some other RPGs with a medieval setting, Warhourse Studios’ title offers a more historically accurate representation of the period. It tells tales of kings and knights, the politicking within small villages, and the grander politics of the game’s world as a whole.

The sequel continues the story of Henry, who rose from a peasant and earned acclaim as a respected warrior in the first game. The next chapter in his tale takes place in the city of Kuttenberg, a more urban locale when compared to the muddy villages of the first game. Described as “one of the richest cities in medieval Europe,” it is packed with buildings and structures with an array of NPCs and animals populating the streets.

The story has been described as “more cinematic,” offering plot twists that can catch players off-guard and force them to make crucial decisions. Players can expect a more fleshed-out narrative as the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 features “more than five hours of cutscenes.” The devs also have stated that the open world as a whole is twice the size of the original.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 gameplay

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is primarily a first-person RPG paired with third-person story cutscenes. It features many staple RPG features such as branching dialogue, skill trees, interactive NPCs that react to your actions, and more. However, other fundamental features of the genre such as character creation or classes are not in the game.

Despite the lack of classes, players can role-play through their actions or by having a preferred approach. For instance, they can go on pickpocketing sprees and live out their days as a thief or focus on combat and play as a knight. Their decisions affect Henry’s reputation, which alters how NPCs and settlements treat him.

The combat prioritizes realism and can be unforgiving if players don’t spend time honing their skills. Battles play out like intense duels with the focus being on timed attacks as opposed to long combos or flashy moves. Defeating an enemy is all about finding the chink in their armor and exploiting that weakness. Judging by the snippets of combat showing off during the game reveal, the action looks to be as bloody as the original with some new animations for various maneuvers and finishers.

Most weapons in the game are melee-based, ranging from swords and spears to axes and bows. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 also introduces a new weapon type in the form of Crossbows and medieval firearms.
