PUBG has been around for many players and during this time, it has been released on several platforms. While the original game definitely came with a price, find out if you can now play PUBG for free.

PUBG is one of the best-selling games in history. Back in 2017, it took over the internet with its authentic graphics and battle royale format. From Shroud to Dr Disrespect, the biggest names in the gaming community were enjoying and promoting it.

PUBG’s unprecedented rise in the battle royale genre was certainly hindered by the release of Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone. Unlike PUBG, these AAA titles were free-to-play and were able to quickly gain massive player bases.

Here’s how PUBG bounced back and everything you need to know about its free-to-play model.

How to play PUBG for free

PUBG can be downloaded for free on Steam, the Xbox store, and the PlayStation store. The mobile versions should be available on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. However, your mobile device must be compatible to run this high-end game and in some cases like in India, it is banned.

Do you need Xbox Live and PlayStation Plus to play PUBG?

No, following the free-to-play transition, you don’t need Xbox Live or PlayStation Plus to play PUBG on your Xbox or PlayStation consoles. It is important to reiterate that the free version has limited features and you’ll have to purchase Battlegrounds Plus to enjoy ranked and custom games.

The developers believe that putting a price tag on the ranked mode was important to tackle cheaters. It is inevitable for multiplayer games to face hackers, and PUBG is no exception.

Is PUBG Mobile free?

Yes, PUBG Mobile and its variants like Battleground Mobile India and New State Mobile are also free-to-play. One must not assume that these games are not profitable. In fact, PUBG Mobile is one of the highest-grossing mobile games of all time and its esports scene is much bigger than many AAA titles.

All in all, if you want to enjoy PUBG for free without any limitations, mobile could be the ideal platform for you. On the flip side, if you’re fine with missing out on ranked mode and just want to experience the authentic game on PC or consoles, now is the perfect time to hop in.
