PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has established itself as one of the most popular battle royale games of all time, but can you play with friends on other platforms? Here’s everything you need to know about PUBG cross-platform play in 2021.

While games like Warzone, Apex Legends, and Fortnite have dominated the battle royale scene over recent years, no game has been as important to the genre as PUBG.

The multiplayer battle royale was first released back in 2017, but players around the world still jump into maps like Vikendi and Erangel in hopes of earning a ‘winner winner chicken dinner.’

With the game now available on multiple platforms, players want to know if PUBG is cross-platform. Here’s everything you need to know about PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds cross-play status in 2021.

Is PUBG cross-platform in 2021?

Yes, PUBG is cross-platform, but only between consoles. That means if you play on one of Microsoft’s Xbox consoles, you can jump into games with your friends on PS4 or PS5.

Unfortunately, cross-play is not available between console and PC, which means your mouse and keyboard friends can’t join your console lobby.

For those who enjoy mobile gaming, PUBG Mobile does support cross-play between Android and iOS devices, but not to consoles or PCs.

Will PUBG PC get cross-play?

As of November 2021, PUBG Corp have not announced any plans to allow console players to join PC lobbies or vice versa.

There are likely a number of reasons for this, but the biggest issue would come from the difference in peripherals. Mouse and keyboard players on PC would have a large advantage over controller opponents, and PUBG Corp may see that as too difficult an obstacle to overcome.

Cross-play is also a huge undertaking technologically, and with the devs currently working on PUBG 2, they may not see it as a worthwhile investment of time or resources.

Despite the popularity of other battle royales, PUBG holds a special place in the heart of many gamers. In fact, the game still holds Steam’s overall peak player record and remains the third most-played game on the platform.
