Leather is one of the most important materials you can have in V Rising’s early game, and we’ve got everything you need to know on how to make it.

Ever wanted to live your life as an undead, blood-drinking vampire? Fancy building your own castle and surviving against demons, monsters, and other vampires? Welcome to V Rising, a survival-combat game from Sweden’s Stunlock Studios.

V Rising went into early access on May 17 and immediately became a huge hit on Steam, rising to the #12 spot on the platform’s most active players list. The game is receiving rave reviews early on, with players praising the game’s combat system and dynamic enemies.

For those who jump into V Rising, one of the first materials you’ll need to gather is leather. Unfortunately, there isn’t much in terms of in-game instructions on how to create it. Thankfully, if you find yourself stuck, we’ve got you covered.

How to get leather in V Rising

The good news is that making leather in V Rising isn’t too complicated, but rather, it’s just a little confusing if you don’t know how. V Rising certainly isn’t the kind of game to hold your hand, instead opting to throw you in at the deep end to see if you sink or swim.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to make leather from the start. First, you’ll need to defeat Keely the Frost Archer, a Level 20 boss. Go to your Blood Altar, which should show you a list of available bosses, and select them. Hit the “track blood” button, and follow it to the Bandit Trapper Camp in Farbane Woods to fight Keely.

Once you have defeated the Frost Archer, you will be able to construct a Tannery, which costs eight planks and 160 animal hides. Now with the Tannery built, simply interact with it, and drag your animal hides into one of the input slots. You’ll need 16 animal hides to craft one piece of leather. You can view our step-by-step guide below.

  1. Activate your Blood Altar, and select Keely the Frost Archer.
  2. Hit the “track blood” option, and follow them to the Bandit Trapper Camp in Farbane Woods.
  3. Fight and defeat Keely the Frost Archer.
  4. Return to your castle, and select the Build menu by pressing ‘B’.
  5. Scroll until you find the Tannery and build it. (Requires 8 planks and 160 animal hides.)
  6. Interact with it, and drag animal hide into the input slot.

Remember, you need animal hide to make leather, so we suggest you have a good stockpile of it before you start thinking about crafting it.

The good news is that V Rising‘s Farbane Woods, where you defeat Keely, is full of animals, so it shouldn’t take too long to farm lots of them if required.
