Elemental Skill
With his Elemental Skill, Chongyun first deals Cryo DMG to enemies in a fixed radius and then infuses the attacks of every melee character with Cryo. To use the Cryo infusion, the character must stay inside the circle.
Elemental Burst
With his Elemental Burst, Chongyun summons three Cryo Swords that deal massive AoE damage to the enemies. These swords also launch the opponents making them great for crowd control.
How to play Chongyun in Genshin Impact
You can play Chongyun as a burst-DPS in Genshin Impact. This is because his Elemental Skill is an off-field ability that you can use to deal Cryo DMG with your main DPS and the burst is the main source of Chongyun’s damage.
Chongyun’s passive talents and constellations buff his Elemental Skill and only the sixth constellation grants you increased burst DMG. Having said that, he is a four-star character so unlocking his constellations shouldn’t be too difficult.
If you use Chongyun’s Elemental Skill as an on-field ability, he can very well be the main damage dealer of the team. In such a situation, make sure to level up his Normal attack talents as well.
Best weapons for Chongyun in Genshin Impact
Serpent Spine
The four-star Serpent Spine grants Crit Rate which is desirable for a sub-DPS/burst DPS like Chongyun in Genshin Impact. When the wielder of this sword remains on-field, it can buff the damage output by 30% in just 20 seconds.
You will stack the damage buffs even if you leave the field temporarily but the stacks are reduced when you take damage and the passive also increases the DMG you take. Hence, try not to get hit or add a strong shielder like Zhongli or Diona to your team.
Blackcliff Slasher
The four-star Blackcliff Slasher in Genshin Impact grants Crit DMG and increases damage after you defeat an opponent. This is a straightforward weapon that can significantly improve Chongyun’s damage-dealing abilities.
Luxurious Sea-Sword
The Luxurious Sea-Sword is the best free-to-play weapon for Chongyun in Genshin Impact. It grants ATK and increases Elemental Burst DMG. If you want to maximize Chongyun’s Burst DMG and want him to be an on-field DPS, the R5 Luxurious Sea-Sword is a splendid option.
Sacrificial Greatsword
You’ll get Energy Recharge from the Sacrificial Greatsword in Genshin Impact. Although Chongyun’s Elemental Burst only requires 40 Energy, you can benefit from this weapon’s passive that gives a chance to reset the Elemental Skill cooldown.
Getting to use Chongyun’s Elemental Skill without cooldown will improve your Cryo application. This is advantageous when you pair him with off-field Pyro supports like Xiangling or off-field Hydro supports like Kokomi.

Gladiator’s Finale
As a main damage dealer, Chongyun can make the most of the four-piece Gladiator’s Finale. You’ll get a solid ATK% buff and the four-piece bonus will increase your Normal Attack damage by 35%.
While this set won’t increase Chongyun’s elemental damage, the damage you get from Normal Attacks is way more consistent.
Two-piece Blizzard Strayer & two-piece Gladiator’s Finale
The hybrid set of Gladiator’s Finale and Blizzard Strayer grants ATK% and Cryo DMG bonus to Chongyun. Considering his play style, it isn’t a surprise that both these bonuses can help him become a durable main DPS/burst DPS.
Two-piece Noblesse Oblige & two-piece Gladiator’s Finale or two-piece Blizzard Strayer
The two-piece Noblesse Oblige set in Genshin Impact increases Elemental Burst DMG. The four-piece isn’t recommended for Chongyun because he is not an attack booster like Bennett. Based on the stats you need, you can pair two-piece Noblesse Oblige with either Gladiator’s Finale for ATK or Blizzard Strayer for Cryo DMG.
Which artifact stats are best for Chongyun?
To get the most damage, focus on getting as much ATK, Crit Rate, Crit DMG, and Elemental Mastery as possible from your artifacts while building Chongyun. As for the main stats, try having a Crit Rate/Crit DMG Circlet, a Cryo DMG bonus Goblet, and an ATK% Sands. If you have less ER, an Energy Recharge Sands can also work.
