Similar to emotes, if you own any of the rarest skins in Fortnite, you are sure to stand out amongst hundreds of players on the battlefield.

Over the years, skins like The Reaper, Double Helix, and more have become extremely rare due to limited availability and the hype around them has only increased with time. So, here’s a list of the rarest skins in Fortnite.

What is the rarest Fortnite skin of all time?

The Aerial Assault Trooper is the rarest skin in Fortnite.

The Aerial Assault Trooper is the rarest skin in Fortnite as of 2024.

Although some may claim that exclusive skins are rarer, it is worth noting that Aerial Assault Trooper was only available during Chapter 1 Season 1. It’s a skin that only the most committed, long-term Fortnite players are likely to own.

The Renegade Raider is an equally rare skin that was also only available in the Chapter 1 Season 1 Battle Pass Shop at Lvl. 20. Many players put it above Aerial Assault Trooper in terms of rarity, but there is no method to prove it objectively.

What is the rarest Item Shop skin?

Reflex is rarer than the Stealth Reflex skin in Fortnite.

Reflex is the rarest Item Shop skin in Fortnite. It last appeared in March 2019 during Chapter 1 Season 6, and fans have been waiting for its return for over 1980 days.

Reflex is part of the Counterattack set, which also includes Stealth Reflex from the Nvidia GeForce bundle. However, players must not confuse Reflex with Instinct, which is the female version of the skin and appears in the shop way more regularly.

While Instinct has been in the Item Shop 32 times since its launch, Reflex only has two Item Shop appearances which explains its rarity.

13. The Paradigm

Paradigm skin in Fortnite
Paradigm is one of the core members of The Seven.

The Seven gained prominence among Fortnite players at the end of Chapter 3 as their Ultimate Showdown against the Imagined Order took place. The Paradigm, rumored to be a rogue agent, first appeared in the Item Shop in October 2019, and at the time, players didn’t understand her importance in the storyline.

Little did we know that The Paradigm wouldn’t return to the Fortnite shop for over 1760+ days. In August 2024, Epic Games brought Paradigm back to the Item Shop by mistake, later refunding players who purchased the outfit. Additionally, they revealed they’re working on a new version of The Paradigm that will be available in the Item Shop regularly.

12. Royale Bomber

Fortnite Royale Bomber skin
The Royale Bomber skin was first available as part of a PlayStation 4 x Fortnite bundle back in 2018.

Royale Bomber is the first promotional outfit to make this list of the rarest Fortnite skins. It was very ambitious of Epic Games to think that players would purchase a PlayStation 4, especially for an outfit as generic as Royale Bomber. However, the reluctance to buy the bundle only made the skin rarer.

We are now going through a new generation of console gaming with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S. Hence, the Royale Bomber is a great way for Fortnite veterans to prove that they’ve played the game on a PS4.

11. Demogorgon

Demogorgon skin in Fortnite
The Officer Jim Hopper skin was also available with the Demogorgon skin as a part of a crossover event.

Yes, a terrifying monster from another dimension is one of the rarest skins to get in Fortnite. Back in Chapter 1 Season 9, Demogorgon was a part of the Stranger Things crossover event and was available for purchase in the Item Shop for 1200 V-Bucks.

To get Demogorgon, you had to spend real money or save up enough V-Bucks from previous Battle Passes, which is not an easy task. Even fans and collectors had a hard time getting Demogorgon as it was only in the Item Shop for a limited time and it has not returned since then.

All in all, be careful when you encounter someone wearing the Demogorgon skin because they’ve certainly spent a lot of money or V-Bucks to get it.

10. Honor Guard

Fortnite Honor Guard skin
Honor Guard was a phone-exclusive skin.

A skin that is now impossible to obtain because of its exclusiveness and cost is Honor Guard. It never showed up in the Item Shop and was an extra reward for anyone who bought the Honor View 20 worth $650 at the time.

Millions of players didn’t even get a fair shot at unlocking Honor Guard, making it one of the most exclusive rare skins. The offer was only valid in early 2019, and you can’t get it now.

9. Double Helix

Fortnite Double Helix skin
Double Helix was included in the limited-edition Nintendo Switch x Fortnite bundle.

Another Fortnite skin that is expensive and rare is the Double Helix skin. You had to purchase a special Nintendo Switch console bundle to unlock it and, unfortunately, Switch is one of the worst platforms to play Epic Games’ battle royale title.

The Double Helix bundle is no longer available officially, and third-party sellers demand over $1000 for it. Purchasing such bundles doesn’t even guarantee that the redeem code to get the skin will still work.

8. Omega with lights

Omega skin in Fortnite
Even the free version of the Fortnite Battle Pass grants V-Bucks.

Back in Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 4, you could unlock the Omega skin alongside all the Light upgrades after reaching tier 100 and level 80 in the Battle Pass. Even during this time, players were yet to master the XP grind and the developers didn’t introduce a ton of different ways to level up like there are now.

Reaching tier 100 for Omega was a huge task in itself, and to climb 80 more levels for the additional Edit Styles was simply impossible for many. As a result, if you come across someone with lights coming out of their Omega outfit, they’re most likely a certified veteran.

7. Eon

Eon skin in Fortnite
Old Fortnite bundles become inaccessible after some time due to inflated prices.

The Eon skin in Fortnite was released as part of an Xbox One S bundle and it has gradually become one of the rarest cosmetics in the battle royale. The previous-gen Xbox console is no longer relevant, and although you can still buy the bundle, it’ll most likely be way too overpriced to justify the sale.

Eon is not the most stunning or unique Fortnite skin out there, which is why not a lot of players bought the bundle in the first place. However, the tides have turned and in Chapter 5 Season 3, you might gain the attention of the lobby by donning the outfit.

6. Travis Scott – Rarest Icon series skin in Fortnite

The Astronomical bundle costs 2500 V-Bucks in Fortnite.

Travis Scott is one of the many Fortnite Icon Series skins and the rarest among them. As opposed to other Icons, the Travis Scott and Astro Jack outfits were last seen in April 2020, meaning it hasn’t returned to the Item Shop in four years.

The Fortnite community has had six chances to purchase Travis Scott cosmetics so far, and although the skins were a huge hit back then, many are still waiting to get their hands on it. Epic Games have remained silent on the matter, and it’s unlikely that Travis Scott and Astro Jack will be available in Fortnite again anytime soon.

Until then, Travis Scott will comfortably be the rarest Icon Series skin.

5. Black Knight

Black Knight Skin in Fortnite
Only longtime hardcore players will have the Black Knight skin.

Black Knight was a Tier 70 reward from the Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 2 Battle Pass, which was the first Battle Pass ever. This might not seem to be as hard as reaching Lv. 350 for Golden Agent Peely, but the XP system has changed a lot in the past four years.

Also, Fortnite wasn’t as sweaty as it is now. Players didn’t make sky-scrapers within seconds as everyone was still adapting to the new building and editing mechanics. Accordingly, only a handful of players were capable enough to complete the XP challenges to get their hands on Black Knight.

Fun fact, Black Knight is just Agent Jonesy wearing intimidating armor.

4. World Warrior

World Warrior outfit in Fortnite
World Warrior outfit was introduced in Chapter 1 Season 9.

The World Warrior outfit has replaced the Black Widow outfit in this list as the latter appeared in the Item Shop during Fortnite Chapter 4 Season OG. On the other hand, the World Warrior outfit first arrived in July 2019 and after being available for three days, it left the shop and never returned.

The outfit isn’t the most outstanding cosmetic in Fortnite by any means. In fact, it was a small part of the World Cup 2019 set and you could purchase it independently for 800 V-Bucks. For these reasons, only a handful of players spent their V-Bucks on the World Warrior skin and after almost five years, it has become one of the rarest skins ever.

3. Galaxy

Galaxy skin in Fortnite
Fortnite began its support for Android devices with Samsung Galaxy phones.

Galaxy is another expensive exclusive Fortnite skin that is rare. It was a ‘free’ reward for players who purchased the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Tab S4. The promotional skin was available before Fortnite made it to Android devices, which surely added to its rarity.

To unlock Galaxy, you had to physically play Fortnite and buy a high-end Samsung device, which is something only the most passionate players could do. Interestingly, Epic Games had to remove Galaxy from many accounts because players stormed Samsung stores and got the skin by playing on devices that were for show.

2. Renegade Raider

Renegade Rider skin in Fortnite
Renegade Raider is an OG fan’s favorite skin.

The Renegade Raider skin may not look very impressive compared to newer skins, but it is very popular among Fortnite veterans. It was only sold in the Item Shop in Chapter 1 Season 1, and players had to reach Level 20 and pay 1,200 V-Bucks to buy it.

If you use this skin in a match, other players will know you’ve been playing battle royale on the Island since the very start. That alone would usually make the Renegade Raider the most rare skin on this list, but there’s one even more elusive skin out there.

1. Aerial Assault Trooper

Ariel Assault Trooper skin in Fortnite
Aerial Assault Trooper from Season 1 remains the rarest skin in Fortnite.

The Aerial Assault Trooper skin is another Fortnite skin that came before the now-famous Battle Pass, and it was only sold in the Item Shop in Chapter 1 Season 1 for 1,200 V-Bucks after reaching Level 15.

While the level requirement for Aerial Assault Trooper was low, most players chose to buy the Renegade Raider skin instead, and she’s become a much more well-known character.

Not many people have or remember the Aerial Assault Trooper skin, so it’s definitely the rarest Fortnite skin.

What is the most OG skin ever?

Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper are not just the rarest but also the most OG Fortnite skins ever. Anyone who owns them is a true OG as they’ve been playing the battle royale title since day one.

Apart from Renegade Raider and Aerial Assault Trooper, these OG skins were released during the early days of Chapter 1 and not a lot of players own them at the moment:

  • Trooper
  • Special Forces
  • Tracker
Most OG Fortnite skins such as Tracker and Trooper
Guild and Sandstorm are also OG Fortnite skins.

Why are Fortnite skins rare?

A Fortnite skin can become a rare asset due to any of the following reasons:

  • Exclusivity – Some Fortnite skins are exclusively available to players who own a certain bundle, console, graphics card, or mobile device. This indirectly adds a lot to the skin’s price. Some of the outfits that fall under this category are Double Helix and Galaxy.
  • In-game price – If a skin costs more than what the players think it should, the community ignores its presence in the Item Shop, and over the years, such skins don’t return to the shop and end up becoming rare. Special Forces is a great example.
  • Time-limited events – Fortnite hosts several events and taking part in them grants free cosmetics to players. The free rewards from such events never usually return as a purchasable item, making them rare.

If you decide to fight while donning a rare skin, make sure to hire NPCs and get your hands on Mythic weapons to complete quests and level up fast.
