Will there be a Fortnite x Overwatch crossover? New item convinces fans
Fortnite players are convinced that Epic Games are planning to introduce a crossover with the popular team-based shooter title Overwatch, and here’s everything we know about this crossover.
There have been numerous major crossovers with popular franchises that have brought new skins along with other cosmetic items to Fortnite, including Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and Indiana Jones.
Epic Games have also brought crossover content from other video game franchises such as Halo and Street Fighter. Now, a new cosmetic item has players convinced that an Overwatch crossover is on its way to Fortnite.
Fans noticed that the new ‘Hamster Cabbie’ spray in Fortnite shares similarities with Wrecking Ball’s Pilot spray from Overwatch 2. The tank hero Wrecking Ball in Overwatch is a hamster, and the design on the spray greatly resembles him.
Notable Fortnite leaker HYPEX tweeted: “Either Fortnite got a bit too inspired from Overwatch in the new spray, or maybe there’s an upcoming collab with them.” This sparked speculation about a potential crossover.
Fellow leaker ‘Shiina’ replied that a Fortnite and Overwatch crossover “needs to happen.” Another user predicted that Epic Games could add cosmetic skins for the characters Diva, Genji, Reaper, Tracer, Widowmaker, and Mercy.
A few others in the thread were not convinced that this is hinting at a potential crossover and instead believed that this could just be a case of lazy copying. One user tweeted: “They pay artists outside of Epic so there’s a possibility it’s traced.”
At the time of writing, there’s no way to know for sure whether or not Epic Games are teasing a major crossover between Fortnite and Overwatch. As soon as the developers confirm anything we’ll be sure to let you know.
