CoD Zombies fans were extremely disappointed with Vanguard’s lack of round-based maps, but that’s set to change as Treyarch have confirmed a round-based map is in development. However, it won’t be arriving in Season 3.

The basic premise of Call of Duty: Zombies is to survive wave after wave of the undead, but Call of Duty: Vanguard significantly changed the format. Instead of the traditional round-based gameplay, Vanguard players are tasked with completing objectives on the other side of portals.

Zombies fans were furious with the lack of round-based maps, but Treyarch have confirmed that a round-based map is finally on the way. But, it’s still some way off as there won’t be any new Zombies content in Season 3.

Vanguard Season 2 brought some long-awaited additions to Zombies, including Wonder Weapons and a Main Quest easter egg. However, the “boring” new Terra Maledicta map was slammed for still not being round-based.

It appears that Treyarch have taken the feedback on board, announcing on April 14 that a round-based map is in development.

In the April 14 blog post, Treyarch were quick to temper expectations as they explained it would take time to develop a round-based map, “we want to set the expectation up-front that it’s going to take some time to get it into your hands. This involves extensive systems development from the ground-up in a variety of areas, including the design, implementation, and testing of round-based wave spawning.”

The blog also provides details on the new Vanguard Zombies map and fans of World at War have reason to be excited. The round-based map will be an updated version of Shi No Numa, “Vanguard’s next Zombies map will be a reimagining of the full scope of “Shi No Numa” first introduced in Call of Duty®: World at War.”

The updated version of Shi No Numa will have plenty of upgrades including “all-new Main Quest and Side Quests, a new area to explore, a new Wonder Weapon Quest” and much more that the devs have in store.

So while this is excellent news for Vanguard players who still had hopes that the devs could turn the Zombies experience around, the map will not arrive in Season 3.
