After continuous player complaints about footstep audio in both Warzone and Modern Warfare, the devs have been working on new technology to improve the audio for Modern Warfare 2.

With the release of the final season of Warzone and Vanguard, players are edging closer to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2.

The devs have been revealing more and more about the next Modern Warfare installment, including trailers and screenshots which have revealed some of the weapons players will use, as well as how to play the beta and gain access to the Campaign early.

Now, the devs have revealed new information on the audio for Modern Warfare 2, claiming that they have been working on new technology to improve footstep audio.

Infinity Ward dropped a video concerning the audio for Modern Warfare 2, detailing how they have captured the sounds for weapons, vehicles, and various other aspects of the game. In order to make the game as realistic as possible, the devs have recorded real sounds of tank cannon fire, helicopters, weapon reloads, explosions, and more.

Further, they also revealed that they have brand new audio engines, as well as “improved 3D directionality,” which the devs claim is great for hunting enemies down by listening to footsteps.

It sounds like the new audio technology is focused on improving the direction that footsteps are heard, perhaps making it a more realistic experience. With the new tech, players may be able to pinpoint the direction of an enemy more accurately, which is obviously a great improvement.

Footstep audio has always been a massive issue for players, with many hoping the devs would improve it. It seems the devs are really trying to give the fans what they want with Modern Warfare 2, so hopefully, this new audio technology is a hit.

It also means that this new technology will likely be available for Warzone 2, as the two games will run on the same engine.

Speaking of the next Warzone game, check out when the first season of Warzone 2 will start.
