Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of notable boss fights, and Grym is one of the strongest opponents you’ll find in the game, primarily because of its many resistances and massive health pool. While it may appear invincible at first, here’s how to defeat Grym without a scratch in BG3.

Combat in Baldur’s Gate 3 is pretty tough to master, no matter what difficulty setting you choose. The boss battles in particular can be nearly impossible. However, there’s always a way to trick the game and find an easy way out.

Such is the case with Grym, the guardian of the Grymforge who will appear the moment you use the forge. It is immune to all types of physical damage and is resistant to all the elements.

Here’s a step-by-step explanation of how to beat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3 in the easiest way possible.

How to defeat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3

The trick to beating Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to use the environment against it. This is because a normal fight with it can be ridiculously difficult even on the easiest difficulty, where Grym has 210 HP. Balanced difficulty increases this to 300.

The first step you need to follow to beat Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to use the Grymforge in the Underdark. You need to make an Adamantine item in order to spawn the powerful boss. Here’s how you do that:

  1. Put a Mithral Ore in the central node.
  2. Insert any of the Adamantine Moulds in the mold container. There are several to choose from — Longsword, Scimitar, Mace, Shield, Scale, and Splint.
  3. Finally, pull the forge control lever on the outer rim of the circular forge area. This also works like an elevator, bringing down the entire forge to the bottom.
  4. Once this is done and Grym has been summoned, you should place one of your companions near the lava valve. You could pick Shadowheart if you’re planning to fight the boss, but since you’ll be using the environment, choose whoever is the closest to the valve.
  5. You should also make one or more ranged characters stand on top of the mold container.
  6. Another needs to be next to the forge control lever at all times.

Here’s how the fight with Grym will play out in Baldur’s Gate 3 if you follow the steps above.

Grym, after it’s stomped on at least twice.
  1. Grym always goes for the last character who dealt damage to it, which is why this should be whoever is standing on top of the mold container.
  2. Turn the lava valve and let the lava flow in as this makes Grym vulnerable to damage.
  3. When Grym approaches a character on the mold container, it will most likely stand in the center of the machinery. Pull the control lever and smash it with the piston when this happens. You will deal more than 100 damage to it and knock it down for two turns.
  4. Six Mephits will spawn when you smash Grym for the first time. So you need to take them out as well, ideally with ranged attacks. You then need to repeat the process to beat the boss and get your rewards.

Another way to hit the lever when fighting Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3 is to use a bow or crossbow to hit it from afar.

Rewards & drops for defeating Grym in Baldur’s Gate 3

Grym drops the Grymskull Helm when he’s defeated in Baldur’s Gate 3. This unique helmet gives you the Hunter’s Mark spell, resistance to fire damage, and prevents enemies from landing a critical hit on you. Meanwhile, don’t forget to pick up the Adamantine weapon/shield/armor that you put in the Grymforge in the first place.
