Call of Duty: Vanguard

Call of Duty 2021 still releasing this year with extensive Warzone integration

Call of Duty 2021 will still release later this year into a highly competitive gaming season.

Call of Duty 2021, heavily rumored to be called Call of Duty: Vanguard, is still on track to release later this year, Activision executives have confirmed.

During the company’s Q2 Financial Investor Call on August 3, Activision Blizzard executives confirmed that the latest ‘premium’ entry to the Call of Duty franchise will launch later this year.

The company has not announced any specific details on the 2021 Call of Duty game beyond confirming that Sledgehammer Games is leading the development of the title.

Activision Blizzard President & COO said that “our teams remain hard at work on the next new premium Call of Duty release, planned for the fourth quarter.”

He also noted that the setting will be one that “fans know and love” with “incredible amount of content in development.”

“From a setting that our fans know and love to an incredible amount of content in development including an extensive live ops schedule, we believe this release will be incredibly well received.

Alegre also noted that Call of Duty 2021 will be available for both current and next-gen consoles, with deep integration with Warzone.

“In addition to launching a great seamless experience for both current and next-gen console players, we are focused on continuing to integrate Warzone and engaging our direct relationship with our player base through even deeper content integration between the premium and free experiences and substantial innovation coming within Warzone itself.”

The 2021 Call of Duty game is rumored to be called Call of Duty: Vanguard and take place during the WWII era. The game’s name as Vanguard now appears to be confirmed in the first teaser for the game.

Activision executives have also confirmed that Call of Duty 2021 will integrate with Call of Duty: Warzone. While specific details remain unannounced, rumors have stated that Warzone will receive a brand new map that takes place in the Pacific Theater of WWII.

Sledgehammer Games is leading the development of Call of Duty 2021. The studio has been rebuilding its team after a few turbulent years. The studio recently unveiled their new logo and updated their website.

The Call of Duty 2021 title is also expected to run on Modern Warfare’s engine, which will better align its gameplay mechanics with Warzone’s experience.

There’s no indication yet as to when Activision plans to reveal the 2021 Call of Duty title. The game will most likely be revealed within Call of Duty: Warzone, similar to Black Ops Cold War.
