The ongoing controversy surrounding the Xbox acquisition of Call of Duty has resulted in Microsoft reportedly offering to keep the legendary FPS franchise on PlayStation for at least 10 years.

Call of Duty has consistently been a top-selling title for the last 15 years and with the release of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 in 2022, that momentum is expected to continue.

It was back in January 2022 that Microsoft stunned the world by announcing their intentions to buy Activision Blizzard in a gargantuan deal worth nearly $70 billion.

The constant back-and-forth dialogue over whether or not Activison’s main franchises will be coming to PlayStation has left players worried, more specifically, Call of Duty fans.

However, a new rumor circulating suggests that the original three-year guarantee has now been turned into a full 10-year stay for CoD on PlayStation.

As reported by reputable source The New York Times, the deal, which is apparently subject to investigation in at least 16 countries, will take a while as various governments take time to decide whether or not the deal “Violates antitrust laws by giving Microsoft outsize power in the video game industry.”

But the report also goes on: “Microsoft said that on Nov. 11 it offered Sony a 10-year deal to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation. Sony declined to comment on the offer.”

Whether the deal will go through remains to be seen due to the scale of the transaction and how it could potentially monopolize the gaming market.

As with everything expected to take time, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens and if Microsoft can get themselves the apt green light to go ahead and buy out Activision Blizzard.
