Will there be a Hogwarts Legacy sequel? Warner Bros. tease plans
Hogwarts Legacy has comfortably been one of the biggest successes of 2023, but is there a sequel in the works? Publisher Warner Bros. has hinted at its plans for the future.
Hogwarts Legacy has established itself as one of the biggest games 2023, boasting impressive sales figures and Twitch stats in the weeks since it first launched.
Potterheads have begun rolling credits on the game’s story and ticking off the many Easter eggs to discover, and with DLC not currently on the cards, many players are wondering what comes next for Wizarding World.
Here’s everything we know so far about a Hogwarts Legacy sequel.
Will Hogwarts Legacy get a sequel?
Sadly, at the time of writing, there has been no official confirmation that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works. However, publisher Warner Bros. has hinted that one could arrive in the future.
In an interview with Variety, Warner Bros. Games President, David Haddad, confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy is being viewed as a “long-term franchise,” suggesting that sequels and spin-offs are likely to follow.
“We are very pleased with the initial launch and see a bright future for our other platform launches,” Haddad explained.
While this doesn’t officially confirm that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, it does seem to reassure players that Warner Bros. is keen to return to the Harry Potter universe after the first game became an instant hit.
Hogwarts Legacy was an instant success when it launched. In the same interview, Haddad shed some light on just how popular Hogwarts Legacy has been since it arrived, claiming there have been “over 152 million hours played, 173 million magical plants grown, 115 million potions brewed and 556 million Dark Wizards defeated.”
He also revealed that the publisher wants to bring more Warner Bros. properties to life in video game form: “Our goal is to continue to utilize our amazing library of Warner Bros. Discovery franchises as we develop our future slate of games.”
Only time will tell when a possible Hogwarts Legacy sequel will arrive and which corner of the Wizarding World it will take place in.
But with iconic locations like the Chamber of Secrets and features like Quidditch missing from the original, players will feel there is still plenty of ground left to cover as the franchise grows.
