Modern Warfare 2 has plenty of different modes to sink time into, but the iconic Zombies mode was nowhere to be seen at launch. So, will Modern Warfare 2 have Zombies later down the line?

Modern Warfare 2 is jam-packed full of different modes to keep players occupied for dozens, if not hundreds, of hours. From the single-player campaign and multiplayer staples like Team Deathmatch to new modes such as Prisoner Rescue, there’s no shortage of options.

However, the fan-favorite Zombies mode, which has featured in many CoD titles since its debut in World at War, wasn’t in Modern Warfare 2 at launch. This has left many players wondering if the classic survival mode will be making its way to the game in the future.

Here’s everything we know about Zombies in Modern Warfare 2.

Is Zombies coming to Modern Warfare 2?

CoD Zombie

Sadly, developer Infinity Ward have confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 won’t feature a Zombies mode at any point during its lifespan. This was announced before the game was released back in October 2022, meaning Zombies fans will likely have to wait for the next CoD release to see the mode return.

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise, as Zombies tends to feature in Treyarch-developed titles. The exception is 2016’s Infinite Warfare, which marks the only time that Infinity Ward have tried their hand at the round-based mode, raising hopes that it would appear in all of its games going forward.

Instead, Modern Warfare 2’s co-op option is Spec Ops, which has appeared in every Modern Warfare title since the original MW2 in 2009. Specs Ops puts players through a series of missions that can be completed in squads, as they try to achieve the best possible score.

Modern Warfare 2 also introduced a new co-op experience in the form of Raids, the first of which dropped in Season 1 Reloaded. These longer missions put squads of three through their paces by hitting them with intense combat and puzzles that require teamwork and communication.

So, although there won’t be a Zombies mode in Modern Warfare 2, there is still plenty of other options to scratch that same itch.
