FIFA 23 Crossplay allows people to play games with friends no matter which platform they own, and while FIFA 23 is the first in the series to launch with the feature, there’s a pretty big catch to how it works.
Crossplay has been a vital feature for multiplayer games throughout the last five years. Long gone are the days when friends and foes are restricted to your console of choice.
Massive franchises like Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Apex Legends have all adopted cross-platform gaming and now EA has brought the concept to its football franchise.
EA’s FIFA 23 is the first time the series has launched a game with crossplay built in, but unfortunately, there are some pretty major caveats to how it works.
Does FIFA 23 have crossplay?
Yes, FIFA 23 has crossplay for the first time in the franchise’s history. Unfortunately, though, it has been restricted to 1v1 modes only.
Players will be able to join matches featuring competitors on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC. Those who are using last-gen consoles like PS4 or Xbox One will be able to play together but will be separated from everyone else as they will be playing a different version of the game.
FIFA 23 crossplay-enabled modes
FIFA 23 has crossplay enabled in all 1v1 modes. This means that any games where you play against a singular opponent will see you battle foes from all platforms.
In Ultimate Team, this means that Friendlies, Division Rivals matches, and FUT Champions games could see you take on a player on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X.
Online Seasons and VOLTA Football also utilize cross-platform play.
Does FIFA 23 Pro Clubs have crossplay?
FIFA 23 Pro Clubs sadly does not feature crossplay in any capacity. This means you will only be able to play with players who own the same system as you do.
Players who own different consoles from the same family can still play together should those on PS5 or Xbox Series X download the last-gen versions of the game on their new consoles. PC players will only be able to play with others who use Steam or Origin.
