Fortnite features a wide assortment of weapons for you to use, and if you’re wondering what a melee weapon is then we’ve got you covered with everything that you need to know.

When you hop into Fortnite, you’ll have to start collecting a variety of items to help you win the match, including bandages, shields, Gold Bars, and powerful weapons to use against enemy players.

The game has a large collection of guns that you can collect, including a ton of ranged weapons. However, if you prefer to take your enemies on up close and personal then there are plenty of close-range options available as well.

What is a ranged weapon in Fortnite?

A melee weapon in Fortnite is a weapon that you use to physically attack enemies up close. So that includes every weapon in the battle royale title that does not shoot projectiles or bullets.

You start off each match with the Pickaxe Harvesting Tool which can be used to break through structures and dish out small amounts of damage to enemy players. You can also collect the Shockwave Hammer during the match.

Melee weapons can be used to dish out damage to enemies in close-range battles.

How to use melee weapons in Fortnite

You can use melee weapons to take out enemies by walking up to your target with the weapon equipped and pressing the attack/shoot button. Once you’ve made direct contact with the opponent, they’ll take damage from the melee weapon.

Here’s what you need to do:

Equip a melee weapon.
Get up close to your opponent.
Press the attack/shoot button.
Repeat the process to keep dealing damage.

One of the Fortnite Geralt of Rivia Quests tasks you with dealing 500 melee damage to enemies. Doing so will grant you the Witcher’s Silver Sword which is also unlockable through the School of the Llama Quests.
