Warzone devs hint at Caldera map changes in Season 2 update

Warzone players noticed that Caldera’s minimap showed a building that didn’t exist, and Raven Software teased that this is a sign of map changes to come in Season 2.

Warzone finally received a brand-new map with Season 1’s Pacific update, but players were keen for Raven Software to keep it changing to stop it from going stale. Although Verdansk received an 80s overhaul, many players still wished that the developers had done more with it.

It appears that Raven have some map changes planned for Caldera, as they teased that an area would receive an overhaul in February’s Season 2.

Docks in Warzone Pacific Caldera

Warzone players were baffled when they noticed that the Refinery area south of Docks looked completely different on the mini map. While the actual area has some rusty old buildings dotted around, the minimap shows that the area has two large buildings instead.

A player then tweeted Raven Software to let them know about the issue on January 25 and they replied, teasing that there’s a good reason for this. “Maybe the Map knows about a change coming to this area in Season 2?” they suggested.

One of the major complaints about Caldera is that all of the interesting areas and POIs are dotted around the edge of the map, while the middle is has been described as “barren nothingness.” This could be Raven’s attempt to build up the center of the map, and change how the area is played.

Whether this is the only map change for Season 2 remains to be seen, as Raven could have any number of changes lined up. Hopefully, we’ll find out more when the roadmap drops in the coming weeks.

Season 2 was originally scheduled for the start of February but got pushed back to February 14 to allow the developers more time to work on bugs and balance tweaks. We know that Ranked Play will finally drop in Vanguard with this update, but they’re still playing their cards close to their chest when it comes to Warzone.
