Underrated Warzone 2 SMG to surpass Fennec claims expert
According to a Warzone 2 expert, an overlooked SMG has the potential to usurp the Fennec as the king of the close-range meta.
Apart from the Season 1 Reloaded update that delivered weapon buffs and nerfs, Warzone 2 players have not received any major changes to weapons. For this reason, the meta has been rather static over the course of Season 1.
The RPK and the Fennec have been the two most popular weapons for some time now when it comes to long-range and close-range utility respectively. Despite the lack of Warzone 2 buffs and nerfs, an expert revealed that the TAQ-V is actually better than the RPK.
The expert in question, IceManIsaac, has continued his deep dive into Warzone 2’s weapons and revealed that the Fennec’s throne may also be under attack. The stats expert claims that the close-range meta will soon shift from the Fennec to the Lachmann Sub.

- Barrel: L38 Falcon 266mm (+0.18 lb, +0.23 in)
- Laser: VLK LZR 7mw
- Stock: Recoil-56 Factory Stock (-1.16 oz, -1.86 in)
- Underbarrel: VX Pineapple (+0.49 oz, -0.27 in)
- Magazine: 50 Round Drum
The Fennec’s poor damage per mag stat means that players need to be incredibly accurate for it to be highly effective. It remains a top weapon, but IceManIsaac set out to discover an SMG that could compete with it in Warzone 2.
The expert revealed that a lot of pros have been switching to the Lachmann Sub, also known as the MP5. He explains that with the 50 Round Drum, you have “significantly more damage per mag,” allowing you to get more downs than you would with the Fennec.
The VX Pineapple and Recoil-56 Factory Stock combine to make the Lachmann Sub much easier to handle than the wild Fennec. Then, the VLK LZR 7mw and L38 Falcon 266mm provide a major boost to movement speed, aim down sight speed, and sprint to fire speed.
It also has superior bullet velocity, which makes the Lachmann Sub feel “more like hitscan,” outside of the super close range that the Fennec thrives in.
IceManIsaac admits that “the Fennec will win up close” but the difference is negligible enough to warrant using the MP5 which is more forgiving. Ultimately, the Lachmann Sub feels like it’s hitting a lot more consistently than the Fennec “which sometimes feels like you’re getting some ghost bullets.”
