Popular Modern Warfare 2 attachment “unusable” after secret nerf

Modern Warfare 2 players have found what appears to be a secret nerf to a popular laser attachment, making it far less effective in multiplayer matches.

Modern Warfare 2’s overhauled Gunsmith system allows for plenty of freedom to experiment. Players can tinker with different attachments and weapon tunings to find the meta loadout for each of their favorite guns.

One type of attachment that has been incredibly popular since the launch of Modern Warfare 2 is the laser category, thanks to their buffs to hipfire accuracy and ADS speed, ideal for SMGs and Marksman Rifles.

However, players have discovered an unannounced nerf to the 7MW Canted Laser that makes it much less viable in Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 Reloaded.

The Canted Laser prevents from looking down the iron sights as normal, instead flicking the weapon to one side to aim with a laser. This is especially useful for nailing headshots with tricky weapons, or speeding up the ADS speed of a bolt-action rifle.

But Reddit user ‘DontReadUsernames’ noticed a subtle change to the attachment, which appears to have made the laser much less visible over longer distances.

The OP shared a video showing that the laser was almost invisible when aiming down the Firing Range, asking: “Did the canted lasers get nerfed at some point? This is completely unusable.”

Other players responded claiming they had also noticed the difference, with some admitting they have “stopped using” the attachment as a result.

Although there’s no mention of a nerf to the Canted Laser in the mid-season patch notes, fans were adamant that the visibility had been changed, and many were quick to call out the devs.

“That’s 100 percent not the way it used to be. I Cant believe they would nerf this thing,” said one reply. “Infinity ward hates fun. They just nerf everything to the ground until every single weapon is equally dogs**t so they can say their game is ‘balanced,'” agreed another.

It’s worth keeping in mind the devs themselves are yet to confirm if there has been a nerf to Canted Lasers, or if the low visibility is part of a glitch affecting the attachment.

With Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 on the horizon, there’s every chance the issue could be addressed in the update.
