The Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge invites players to pick a team during the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn. We’ll explain the differences between the two teams and what to expect.

Pokemon Go players are just a few days away from celebrating the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn – Global event and they’ll have to take a stand in the Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge. Your decision will shape the game during the weekend of February 25.

In this article, we’ll cover the main differences between the two teams so you’re ready to pick one when the time comes.

What is the Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge in Pokemon Go?

The Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge is one of the many activities that players can enjoy during the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn event. Once players pick their teams, they’ll receive a special badge decorated with either Groudon (Ruby) or Kyogre (Sapphire).

Every hour of the in-game event, players can complete special Field Research tasks on behalf of their team. The team that completes more tasks will influence the Pokemon that all players will encounter in the wild and the Raid Boss that will have increased chances of showing up in a Primal Raid.

What is the Difference between Team Ruby and Team Sapphire in the Pokemon Go Challenge?

Players participating in Field Research tasks can influence the spawns and Primal Raids during the Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge in Pokemon Go.

If Team Ruby completes more tasks, all players will see more Primal Raids featuring Primal Groudon. There will also be an increased chance of encountering these Pokemon:

  • Plusle
  • Volbeat
  • Trapinch
  • Solrock
  • Castform (Sunny Form)

If Team Sapphire completes more tasks, all players will see more Primal Raids featuring Primal Kyogre and an increase in spawns from these Pokemon species:

  • Minun
  • Illumise
  • Wailmer
  • Lunatone
  • Castform (Rainy Form)

Aside from these Pokemon species, players will be able to catch many other Pokemon originally from the Hoenn Region during the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn – Global weekend.

What team should you choose in the Pokemon Go Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge?

You can’t go wrong picking a team in the Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge in Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn. The decision mostly depends on which Pokemon you’re interested in catching and what Primal Legendary you want to see more of.

If you can’t decide yet, we recommend going with the Ruby Badge. Primal Groudon caught during the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn will know the exclusive move Precipice Blades, which is one that competitive players are really looking forward to.

That said, Primal Kyogre caught during the event will know Origin Pulse. Kyogre’s signature move has the same stats as Precipice Blades but isn’t effective against as many types as Groudon’s move.

Considering there’ll be thousands if not millions of players doing Field Research tasks, you’ll probably have a chance to catch both Legendaries as well as many other Hoenn Pokemon.

That’s all you need to know about the Ruby vs Sapphire Challenge ahead of the Pokemon Go Tour: Hoenn – Global event.
