EA confirmed a mobile version of Apex Legends when it first launched, and now it seems that the developers have started running playtests before the battle royale makes its way to the Nintendo Switch this month.
Apex Legends has grown massively in popularity ever since it first launched in 2019. This led to fans asking Respawn Entertainment to bring the battle royale to more platforms, and the game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch on March 9.
The developers confirmed that a launch on mobile devices is also planned for the future, and it seems that time is arriving soon. Reports have come in that playtesting of the mobile version is getting underway.
When Apex Legends first launched, EA announced plans to have a soft launch of the mobile version either at the end of 2020 or at the start of the new fiscal year. Now that March 2021 is here, we expect to see some updates soon.
Reddit user EXO_R3EECH stated that the developers are currently playtesting the mobile version on EA’s testing website. However, it seems that this won’t be available to every player, as they’re apparently testing it on a specific platform.
“Apparently this playtest is catered towards Android users,” the Redditor noted. “Device requirements are Google Pixel 3 or above and Samsung Galaxy S8 or above.” Plus, you won’t get an invite if you didn’t previously register interest.
A few commenters brought up the difficulty of bringing this game to mobile. “Can’t imagine how annoying it is to develop a game that runs smoothly on Android devices when they vary so much in hardware” said one user.
We might see some playtests become available prior to it launch, so you could try registering your interest over on EA’s site. Do keep in mind that there’s no guarantee that you’ll be selected, but it’s still worth a shot.
Hopefully, the player input will help the developers perfect the mobile version of Apex Legends. So far there’s no official release confirmed for it, but we’ll keep checking for updates.
