Overwatch 2 is here, but when does the game’s first season go live? After all, games like Warzone and Apex Legends usually drop a ton of new content into the game, and the first few months of Overwatch 2 are going to be key to its success.
The first season of a new shooter is always a special one and Overwatch 2 Season 1 looks to be no different. Blizzard’s hero shooter is following the crowd by taking its multiplayer title and attaching seasonal updates to it – Battle Passes and all.
Without further ado, let’s dive right into all the details revealed about Overwatch 2 Season 1.
- Overwatch 2 Season 1 release date

Overwatch 2 Season 1 release date
The good news for Overwatch 2 fans is that the wait for Season 1 will be almost non-existent as the content will drop on the same day as the game’s release date – October 4, 2022.
It’s expected that Season 1 will then last a full nine weeks and conclude on December 6, 2022. We’ll be sure to update you around then once we know more about Overwatch 2 Season 2!
Overwatch 2 Season 1 Heroes
The fresh faces will all come in and spruce up an already stellar roster of characters in the series and take the game’s total up to a whopping 35 different Heroes for fans to select during each game.
Overwatch 2 Season 1 maps & game modes
Overwatch 2 was instrumental in popularizing the Payload game mode and has since gone on to include new additions since. However, Season 1 will see the introduction of another new game mode in Push.
The long-awaited variation is finally arriving in the Overwatch universe and it will be accompanied by a bunch of new maps to cause chaos in.
We can confirm that these are the new maps expected to kickstart online multiplayer in Overwatch 2 Season 1:
- Circuit Royal (Escort)
- Colosseo (Push)
- Esperança, Portugal (Push)
- Midtown (Hybrid)
- New Queen Street (Push)
- Rio de Janeiro (Hybrid)
Overwatch 2 Season 1 Mythic Skins
Obviously, it wouldn’t be an Overwatch content drop unless there were some flashy new skins made available to players, and Blizzard are trying not to disappoint in that regard.
Aside from a special ‘Sukajan’ Kiriko skin that can be obtained from a Twitch drop, Season 1 looks to shake things up with new ‘Mythic Skins.’
Ultra-rare, ultra-sought-after, these new skins can completely change the look of the game’s Heroes in ways never seen before. The Cyber Demon Genji skin will represent the first major Mythic skin in the game and it should be the start of something cool for Overwatch 2 going forward.
