Overwatch 2 players are absolutely shocked by the amount of grind time and cost of skins in the hero shooter’s store.

Overwatch 2 Season 1 has officially arrived and despite server issues causing long queue times, players are enjoying the roster of Heroes the game has to offer, including some new faces in Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko.

Blizzard Entertainment’s sequel to Overwatch has seen a huge format change, becoming a free-to-play game.

This means that Overwatch 2 is following many other live-service games by introducing a seasonal Battle Pass and an in-game store for players to purchase cosmetics.

As well as purchasing skins and various other items, players can grind out challenges to earn currency. However, the community has been left shocked and stunned by the sheer grind time needed to earn this currency, as well as how much the actual skins cost.

Community reaction to cost of Overwatch 2 skins

Reddit user sain_87 shared his feelings towards the challenge rewards and cost of Legendary skins with a post in the Overwatch 2 subreddit, saying: “Is this a joke? I have to grind 8 months for one legendary skin in the shop?”

As you can see from the post’s image, players can earn up to 50 Overwatch Coins for completing all the weekly challenges. Legendary skins in the Overwatch 2 store cost 2000 Overwatch Coins, meaning you have to grind a lot to purchase one.

The post has over 31k upvotes, so clearly the community agrees with the OP, and this can also be seen in the comments.

One user stated: “How the f*ck does a skin cost two battle passes,” with another sharing disappointment in devs, “Surprised more people aren’t talking about this. Blizzard expects us to pay $20 for those laughably bad skins?”

Overwatch is new to the free-to-play format, so it may take some time for the devs to fine-tune some of the systems in-game like the challenge rewards.

We’ll have to wait and see if anything changes in the future in response to the backlash, much like how Blizzard have reacted to the SMS protection outrage.
