If the Modern Warfare 2 Season 2 leaks turn out to be true, then World at War’s Castle map will hit the game, much to the dismay of CoD fans.

Modern Warfare 2 players have the Season 1 Reloaded update to look forward to as the Chimera Assault Rifle will make its way to the game. The classic Shipment map will also debut on December 14 with the mid-season update.

Despite this new content on the horizon, new leaks that appeared on December 5 had players looking forward to Season 2 of Modern Warfare 2. The leaks detailed key art for the upcoming content drop and hinted at the return of World at War’s Castle map.

It didn’t take long for this news to raise a ton of eyebrows as Castle recently featured in 2021’s Vanguard. With Call of Duty’s rich history to pull from, Modern Warfare 2 players were disappointed with the supposed decision to offer Castle as a new Season 2 map.

According to the community, the comment with the most upvotes under the above Reddit post summarizes the issue perfectly: “The idea of adding Castle, a map from World At War, into an Infinity Ward game… after ALREADY having a COD game that remade Castle just last year in Vanguard, is utterly f*****g asinine. What the hell is going on at IW?”

Players seemed to agree that a balance of new maps and classic maps is ideal, so long as the remastered maps are due for an upgrade. As one player put it, “Having less NEW maps is way more concerning to me, I just want new content with a select few old bangers.”

Countless players sounded off in the comments as a discussion surrounding Modern Warfare 2 maps ensued. It seems the combination of a lack of new maps and the choice of which classic maps are returning has put players over the edge.

One player highlighted how maps we haven’t seen in years could integrate into Modern Warfare 2’s ecosystem: “we could slightly extend maps like Bloc, Crossfire, Pipeline, and Overgrown and have them as maps for Ground War/Invasion, just to show the potential of returning maps.”

With Season 2 set for a February 1 start date, we’ll have to wait and see if initial leaks are true. For now, take Castle’s arrival with a grain of salt until an official roadmap for Season 2 is revealed.
