Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 are set to get a new NBA crossover skin in the form of the Phoenix Sun’s star Kevin Durant, but players don’t seem too impressed.

Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 have had quite a few crossovers during their time, from celebrating the FIFA World Cup with Messi, Pogba, and Neymar Jr Operator bundles to bringing Shredder from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The Call of Duty devs have teased yet another crossover coming to the game, and this time it’s for NBA great Kevin Durant.

While usually a crossover in Call of Duty is celebrated, especially as they don’t come around as often as they do in a game like Fortnite, players are instead roasting the collab on Reddit and even accusing the devs of trying to copy Epic Games’ model.

In the teaser posted by Call of Duty, the community quickly noticed who the Operator holding a basketball was thanks to the graffiti in the background that reads “Easy Money Sniper.” This is Kevin Durant’s Instagram handle, so it became obvious that the Phoenix Suns player was going to be coming to the game.

After the teaser dropped, Reddit user Nova_Major took to the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit to express their feelings towards the crossover, as they said: “it’s like a bad parody at this point.”

They aren’t the only ones disappointed with the crossover, as many comments under the post express disappointment, with one comment outrightly stating that they feel “the crossovers are s**t in MW2.”

Others claim that it’s “blatant Fortnite chasing” from Call of Duty and that the devs are simply “trying to copy Fortnite.”

This becomes frustrating for players with these opinions, as they want to “play something more grounded in reality,” but they can’t as “this is just giant bunnies and anime guns.”

Call of Duty has always been closely associated with sports, often letting professional teams play the games early and promote the titles on their social media accounts. That said, a lot of players in the community seem to think that “there are so many better characters,” and others feel Call of Duty needs to find its own “identity” instead of perhaps following Fortnite.
