Modern Warfare 2 players call out cosmetics “recycled” from Warzone 1
Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2 feature plenty of cosmetic skins for players to get their hands on during Season 3, but the community is unhappy with a new bundle for “recycling” items from the original Warzone.
With Season 3 well underway, Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2 players are checking out all of the new content that the developers added to the Call of Duty title, including new weapons like the Intervention Sniper Rifle and new Operators.
The developers have also brought new cosmetic bundles featuring Operator skins and other accessories. However, the new Dr. Kushlov Tracer Pack has been met with criticism from the community.
The Dr. Kushlov Tracer Pack features a new cosmetic skin for the Gromsko Operator as well as new Weapon Blueprints for the Kastov-762 and KV Broadside. However, many players feel that these cosmetics are too similar to ones that have appeared before in the CoD franchise.
One example is the Vaporizer Weapon Blueprint for the Kastov-762 which players noted has many similarities to the Resonant Blueprint from the first Warzone. One Warzone 2 player sarcastically stated on Twitter: “All the fun of buying the same skin again.”
The sentiment among players is that Infinity Ward are being “lazy” by providing “recycled content” that they have to pay for. This was not the only cosmetic item in the bundle that received this criticism.
The Dr. Kushlov skin itself greatly resembles the Dr. Kalov skin for the Bale Operator in the first Warzone. One player compared the two skins while stating that the new one looks the same “but with weed this time.”
In the replies, one user commented: “When I went the check the store, this was my first thought lmao. The left skin was the one I’ve been using in Warzone 1 since the Haunting of Verdansk.”
A few users defended the decision to add this cosmetic to Warzone 2, with one saying that there’s nothing wrong with “making old skins available to buy in the new game.” Another player tweeted that it’s meant to be a “spoof” of the bundle featuring Dr. Karlov.
However, this was countered with criticism of the developers selling the “same thing with a different color.” The controversy around the Dr. Kushlov bundle wasn’t just restricted to Twitter, as players also slammed it for being a “reskin” in the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit.
One of the commenters felt that the developers were just selling players things from the first Modern Warfare and described this tactic as “scummy.” Another player described the new skin for Gromsko as a “copy-paste weed-themed Dr. Karlov.”
Many players in the thread attempted to discourage others from purchasing this Tracer Pack while describing it as “garbage.” It remains to be seen if the developers will address this criticism.
