Infinity Ward’s campaigns are regarded as some of the best in the franchise, and players are desperately looking forward to reuniting with Task Force 141 in Modern Warfare 2. But according to a known leaker, the campaign doesn’t end there, as DLC missions are coming in 2023.

The Modern Warfare franchise finally returns later in October, with Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign early access going live on October 20 and the full game releasing on October 28.

Modern Warfare 2 is reported to do something Call of Duty has never done before, bringing two years of content with no new premium title in 2023. There have been a few leaks surrounding Infinity Ward’s plans, and the latest concerns even more campaign missions arriving during Year 2.

Leaker TheGhostOfHope claimed that Modern Warfare 2 will receive a premium “greatest hits map pack” in 2023 to celebrate 20 years of Call of Duty. This map pack will reportedly be released as part of “Year 2” for Modern Warfare 2, bringing classic maps from every CoD developer.

Now, as a follow-up, Hope has claimed that campaign DLC will be released in late 2023, and will be bundled with the map pack leaked above.

Activision said in their Q2 2022’s earnings call that they are “continuing development of new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.” Some took this to mean a brand-new game, but Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who first claimed that Modern Warfare 2 will have a two-year lifecycle, disagreed.

Following the earnings call, Schreier tweeted, “For 2023 I’d expect new paid (“premium”) content for Modern Warfare 2, not a brand new Call of Duty.”

TheGhostOf Hope is “pretty sure” that Schreier was referring to the campaign DLC and map packs they have leaked.

If true, this would be a first for the Call of Duty franchise. DLC packs were used to bring new weapons, maps, and Zombies content, but the campaign was always left as is. Modern Warfare 2019 continued the campaign’s story through Spec Ops and Warzone, but it’s possible that Infinity Ward have even more plans for Task Force 141.

However, this is just an unverified leak for now, so there’s far from any guarantee that 2023 will bring a paid map pack and new campaign DLC missions to Modern Warfare 2. Activision haven’t even confirmed that Modern Warfare 2 will have a two-year cycle.

If you can’t wait to jump into Modern Warfare 2, be sure to check out the games you need to play to get ready for the campaign, multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone 2.0.
