Information concerning Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode continues to arise prior to the game’s October 28 release. Amidst confusion surrounding what the mode will entail, leaker Tom Henderson has claimed that DMZ will not be free to play.

Call of Duty fans got their first look at what to expect from Modern Warfare 2 during the Campaign gameplay reveal that took place at Summer Game Fest. Furthermore, leaks have also revealed images of Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps.

While new information continues to shed light on the upcoming Call of Duty game, Modern Warfare 2’s DMZ mode remains shrouded in mystery. Despite the lack of information concerning the mode, a report from Tom Henderson suggests that DMZ will not be free to play.

The DMZ mode will be a fresh experience for Call of Duty fans as Escape from Tarkov-like extraction-based gameplay is set to take center stage.

Not much is known about the mode, but Henderson did previously reveal that DMZ and Warzone 2 would share a map consisting of classic Modern Warfare 2 POIs.

On July 4, Henderson published another report that brings players one step closer to understanding what the DMZ mode will entail.

It seems the mystery surrounding the mode has led to several false rumors, including one that had players believing DMZ would be a free-to-play experience like Warzone.

Henderson claims that this expectation is false: “Although the future of the DMZ could become free-to-play, that’s currently not the plan. Instead, the DMZ will be tied to Modern Warfare 2 as another mode.”

The industry insider does not rule out the possibility of DMZ eventually adopting a free to play model, but at launch, it will be considered a mode available to players who purchase Modern Warfare 2.

As the October 28 release date for Modern Warfare 2 approaches, inaccurate rumors should cease, while clarity over the game’s modes like DMZ is expected to grow.
