Tears of the Kingdom Demon King explained

In Tears of the Kingdom, Link and Zelda face off against an older version of Ganon. After Ganon was defeated by the duo at the start of Breath of the Wild, he became a force known as the Calamity Ganon that ended up plunging Hyrule into darkness.

When an alliance was formed between the Zonai and the Hylians, King Rauru married Queen Sonia. However, the Queen was murdered by Ganondorf who was the new host of The Demon King, the spirit of Demise. King Rauru then gave his life to seal away this threat.

Ganondorf has manifested as Ganon multiple times, and the original Ganondorf that was fused with the Demon King is now unleashed. In Tears of the Kingdom, Zelda and Link have to defeat this enemy.

How does The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom end?

After Link unites the different races of Hyrule in order to form the six Sages, he battles Ganondorf who has transformed into the Dragon of Darkness. The Dragon of Light aids Link in this battle. Once all the Eyes of Malice have been destroyed, Link defeats his adversary by attacking the Secret Stone on his head.

Unfortunately, Zelda’s dragon form is left weakened by the battle, and Link heals her with his right arm with Rauru and Sonia behind him. Zelda then turns back to her Hylian form. After this, Rauru and Sonia join hands and disappear, leading to the arena falling apart.

Link is able to catch Zelda mid-air and they both fall into a lake. Zelda then wakes up and realizes that Link was able to successfully defeat Ganondorf. At this point, a star marks the saved game to show that the Tears of the Kingdom campaign has been completed.

Link, Zelda, and the Sages then head to a sky palace where Mineru, The Sage of Spirit, reveals that Rauru and Sonia channeled their abilities through Link to help Zelda transform back. She then disappears, trusting Link and Zelda with taking care of Hyrule.

Although the threats of the Calamity Ganon, Ganondorf, and the Demon King have been taken care of, Hyrule is not free from future threats. As the Curse of Demise persists, Ganon will always be able to rise and be a threat again.
