Leaked Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer images seem to confirm factions are back

NFL players got to play Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer early, and leaked images of the multiplayer lobby. From these images, it looks like factions are set to return.

Factions were missing from Call of Duty: Vanguard where players would be assigned to “My Team” and “Enemy Team” and there would be the same Operators on each side. Vanguard players found the lack of factions immersion-breaking and confusing, particularly in hardcore modes.

They’ve been desperate for Modern Warfare 2 to bring back factions, and thanks to Los Angeles Rams kicker Cameron Dicker, it appears Infinity Ward have done just that.

NFL players were invited to play Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer early, and LA Rams player Cameron Dicker shared a now-deleted picture of the private match menus. In this picture, we can clearly see that one team is labeled “Coalition.”

Coalition and Allegiance were the two sides in Moden Warfare 2019’s multiplayer, with characters like Price, Ghost, and Mara on the Coalition, and Nikto, Roze, and Farah on the Allegiance. These were then split into sub-factions such as the SAS, Shadow Company, and Warcom.

Unless these are just assets leftover from Modern Warfare 2019, it appears that the Coalition and Allegiance will return in October 28th’s Modern Warfare 2. But, keep your expectations in check, as we imagine that this is a very early build of the game, so it might not be concrete evidence that factions are returning.

That’s not the only bit of news to come out of these leaked images, as another confirms that the leaked DMZ mode is real. This Tarkov-inspired extraction mode has been heavily rumored, and players can spot the ‘DMZ’ logo in the top right-hand corner.

We’ll likely know about factions for sure once the beta arrives, so you can check out how to get a code by watching the CDL Champs event.
