A leaked image of a Modern Warfare 2 Ground War map has surfaced, giving players a first look at what to expect from the large map mode.

Modern Warfare 2 leaks are beginning to ramp up as the game’s October 28 release date fast approaches. While fans will be anticipating some major news to be revealed at the Call of Duty Next event on September 15, there’s plenty of information to dissect before then.

Thanks to a leaked image, we now have a new look at a Modern Warfare 2 Ground War map. This comes following the news that classic Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps could be heading to Modern Warfare 2 (2022) post-launch.

It was previously reported that Ground War maps from Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer will come together to form the new Warzone 2 map, which only adds to the excitement of this leak. Ground War maps will be called battle maps in Modern Warfare 2 and they will cater to large-scale encounters.

The image was posted to Twitter by user aet0MW2 and later reposted by renowned leaker TheGhostOfHope. We already know that Sariff Bay and Sa’id will appear as battle maps in Modern Warfare 2, but there’s no telling if the image below is associated with either of the maps.

As you can see from the leaked image, the map seems to be located in an urban setting with plenty of buildings acting as potential cover. There’s also quite a large bridge on one side of the map. Based on a recreation of the Warzone 2 map, it’s possible that this Ground War map is located in the Modern City POI.

Warzone fans will be quick to note how the map shares a similar aesthetic to Verdansk with varied terrain, including tons of buildings and even what looks to be a football pitch on the north side of the image. It’s hard to deny that the leaked image looks like an updated version of Verdansk’s Downtown POI.

Rumors suggest that Ground War maps or battle maps will also form part of the DMZ map, but we’ll be sure to provide confirmation of this once more information comes to light.
