Warzone 2’s first Resurgence map, Ashika Island, has finally been revealed, and CoD expert JGOD has revealed the key advantage it has over Rebirth Island from the original.

Resurgence instantly became a fan-favorite mode in the original Warzone, with players falling in love with faster-paced gameplay that allowed them to respawn after death. This was largely due to the popularity of the Rebirth Island map.

Now, the developers have revealed that Resurgence will be making its comeback in Warzone 2, with the brand-new Ashika Island map being revealed ahead of its release in the Season 2 update.

Following our first look at Ashika Island on January 31, Warzone 2 expert JGOD provided his thoughts on the upcoming map and pointed out one major advantage it might have over the beloved Rebirth Island.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, he was discussing the aesthetic of the map and how the devs decided to give it overcast skies instead of clear summer weather.

“Overall, interesting color choices. It is a little darker and gloomier which is not necessarily what I’d like,” JGOD explained. “I like it to be more vibrant [and] visible, kind of like what we had towards the end of Rebirth where the color was pretty solid.”

However, he went on to admit that the choice to make Ashika Island greyer with cloudy skies might actually solve an issue that Rebirth Island had during its lifecycle.

“But then again there are instances where you’d look at the sun, so I think this is better than having to stare at the sun,” he continued.

Lighting was a major complaint in the original Warzone, and many players found the sun too overpowering and distracting during Rebirth Island matches. Hopefully, the design of Ashika Island will get around this issue and make for a smoother gameplay experience.

Overall, JGOD seemed satisfied with the new Resurgence map, calling many of the revealed POIs such as Town Center and Castle “interesting” thanks to the kinds of combat encounters they could conjure up.

We’ll have to wait and see how the community reacts when they try out Ashika Island for the first time after the Warzone 2 Season 2 update on February 15.
