Star Wars Jedi: Survivor lets players immerse themselves in the sci-fi universe like never before, but does it feature an open world to explore? Here’s everything you need to know.

When Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order arrived in 2019, it quickly established itself as one of the best video games set in George Lucas’ iconic universe of all time. It’s no surprise then that the sequel, Jedi: Survival, is being hyped as one of the biggest games of 2023.

The follow-up is set to pick up the original’s story five years later, and expand on its gameplay by introducing new fighting stances. But following the success of Hogwarts Legacy, many fans are wondering if Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be going down the open world route.

Here’s everything you need to know about whether or not Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is an open-world game.

Is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor open world?

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor does feature open-world gameplay, although it’s not quite the same as other games in the genre. Rather than a single huge map to explore, much like its predecessor, Survivor will be broken up into smaller maps across multiple planets.

These areas can be freely explored, and there are plenty of different paths and secrets to find on your travels. Some of these will only become available when you unlock certain force abilities for Cal Kestis.

On top of these open areas, there will also be linear sections with tailor-made combat situations and platforming challenges. These are where the majority of the story content will be delivered.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will feature open-world gameplay as well as linear sections.

The most traditional open-world area will be the planet of Koboh, which will serve as your base of operations as you progress through the story. This will be one of the largest maps you’ll encounter during the campaign, sprawling in each direction with plenty of interesting locations and powerful bosses to track down.

The devs haven’t confirmed if there will be any areas that rival Koboh when it comes to scale, but there will be plenty of exploration to be done on virtually all the planets Cal and his crew visit.

All in all, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor looks to strike the right balance between open-world discovery and linear sections, in order to capture the wonder of exploring the Star Wars universe while still delivering a well-paced story.
