Rust may have released back in 2018, but it remains one of the most popular multiplayer games on the market. Surviving in the dangerous world can be tough, but can you play with friends for help? Here’s everything you need to know about Rust’s cross-play status in 2022, on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.

If spawning into a barren world with nothing but a rock and attempting to survive and thrive sounds like your kind of thing, then Rust is the perfect game for you. Filled with players who want to kill you, radiation that will damage you, and AIs who would love to shoot you, Facepunch Studios’ survival title isn’t for the faint of heart.

Something that confuses many players though is whether they are always facing enemies on the same gaming system. Thankfully, we’ve got all the answers about Rust’s current cross-play status, whether you’re on PC, Xbox, or PlayStation.

Does Rust have cross-play?

Rust does have cross-platform play, but only on consoles, and not on PC. This means that players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S can all jump into games with each other, but not with those on PC.

While this might be frustrating, it’s probably for the best as mouse and keyboard players would have a significant advantage over those with controllers.

Will Rust get cross-play on PC?

As it stands, Facepunch Studios have not announced any plans to join PC and console lobbies, and likely won’t for a variety of reasons.

As mentioned above, players who use a keyboard and mouse would have a significant advantage over their controller opponents, in terms of both building and combat.

On top of that, Rust Console Edition has been following its own development roadmap since its May 2021 release, as the devs work to improve the experience while gradually introducing new features.

For many, Rust’s sandbox survival antics make it the perfect game to sink hours into, with the ability to construct houses and bases, build weapons, and eventually do battle with other players in your server. Now, you’ll always know who is in your server, and whether you can play with your friends.
