The Call of Duty franchise is known for its team-based multiplayer and blockbuster single-player, but can you play its campaign co-op with friends?

While Call of Duty is best known for its classic 6v6 multiplayer and in more recent years, Warzone, players always look forward to playing through their short but action-packed campaigns.

2022’s Modern Warfare 2 carried on from MW2019’s rebooted timeline, introducing us to new takes on classic characters such as Ghost, Soap, and General Shephard.

Previous CoD’s such as World at War and Black Ops 3 have included co-op campaigns but the feature has been somewhat of a novelty. With that in mind, here’s everything you need to know about whether Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is co-op and the options you have for playing with friends.

Can you play campaign with friends on Modern Warfare 2?

No, Modern Warfare 2’s campaign is an entirely single-player experience with no co-op features. While you can earn rewards to be used in multiplayer, you’ll be playing through the story solo.

However, Raids offers a co-op experience that carries on from where Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign left off, so that’s where to go if you’re looking to play with friends. Atomgrad, the first Raid, was released with the Season 1 Reloaded update and sees Price, Farah, and Gaz fight through an underground bunker in search of a missing squad.

Plus, there’s also Modern Warfare 2’s Spec Ops mode. These co-op missions are loosely connected to the campaign and see players drop into Al Mazrah where they must complete objectives and battle the AI.

Modern Warfare 2’s campaign should take a few hours to complete, but then you can play Spec Ops and Raids if you’re looking for a similar experience that’s co-op. More Raids are confirmed to arrive in the coming seasons and we expect more Spec Ops missions to be added as well.

The next major content update will be February’s Season 2, and then there’ll be the Season 2 Reloaded update roughly a month later.
