Fortnite has been one of the most popular video games ever, but is Fortnite dying? We’ve got all the statistics you need, including the 2023 Fortnite player count.
When Fortnite Battle Royale launched in September 2018, few could have imagined that it would dominate pop culture in the manner it has since then. From musicians like Marshmello and Ariana Grande to athletes like LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, Epic Game’s free-to-play title has dominated the gaming scene for many years.
Of course, it’s not just the stars that have flocked to Fortnite. The game’s free-to-play status meant that anyone could download, jump in, and play with their friends, and millions of gamers around the world have done just that over the years.
How many people have played Fortnite, though, and how many are actively playing in 2023? We’ve got all the information you need to know including what the Fortnite player count is and if Fortnite is dying or not.

- How many people are playing Fortnite right now?

Is Fortnite dying?
Unfortunately, Epic Games don’t keep track of how many players are actively playing the game. Still, the number of people who have signed up to play the free-to-play game is staggering.
Back in May 2020, Epic Games confirmed that over 350 million people had registered an account to play the game and that number has likely grown exponentially.
With that in mind, it’s impossible to say that Fortnite is dying, as there are likely over 400 million registered accounts in the game right now.
How many people are playing Fortnite right now?
Epic Games does not regularly provide live updates regarding how many people have played or are currently playing. Still, there are some tools we can use to look at Fortnite’s concurrent players.
In terms of active daily players, PlayerCounter suggests that Fortnite currently has around three to four million concurrent players (at the time of writing), depending on the time of day. This number can get higher around special times, such as in-game events or seasonal patches. That means millions of players are still logging in daily in search of victory royales in Chapter 4.
What is Fortnite’s peak player count?
Fortnite has hosted some major events over the years, with 2020 seeing the peak player count for the game. Over 15 million people jumped on to take part in the Galactus event in December 2020, setting a new record for the game.
It’s clear that people still love Fortnite, and there’s plenty more content to come in the near future. For more Fortnite guides, check out our abundance of content below:
