Battlefield 2042 is the latest entry in DICE’s legendary FPS series, but does it feature cross-platform play? Here’s everything you need to know about using Battlefield 2042 cross-play with friends on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.

It’s almost a year since Battlefield 2042 arrived on our consoles and computers, filled with huge maps, plenty of vehicles, and truly powerful weapons.

With so much included in the game, it’s no surprise that friends want to team up and jump into matches together, but when you play on different platforms, this may not be possible.

Thankfully, we’ve got everything you need to know about Battlefield’s cross-play system, so you can roar into the action as a squad.

Is Battlefield 2042 cross-platform?

Yes, Battlefield 2042 does have cross-platform play. While there was initially a ton of uncertainty regarding this, DICE officially confirmed in July 2021 that the game will have a cross-play feature, and the game launched with the feature as expected.

However, this feature works in a very specific way. PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 players are all able to play together, but Xbox One and PS4 only get to cross-play with each other.

This is because older consoles support up to 64 players in matches, while PC and newer consoles support up to 128 players.

How to disable cross-play in Battlefield 2042

While cross-play can be fun, sometimes you just want to play against people on the same platform as yourself. Thankfully, Battlefield 2042 lets you do this.

To turn off cross-platform play in Battlefield 2042, all you need to do is:

  1. Head to Settings on Battlefield 2042.
  2. Select General, then Other.
  3. Toggle off cross-play.

Remember though, if you turn off cross-play, there’s a good chance you’ll see your wait times between matches increase as the game will have a smaller player base to find opponents in.
