Star Wars Jedi: Survivor continues the journey of Cal Kestis, picking up five years on from his showdown with Darth Vader in Fallen Order. The epic main story takes the Jedi and his crew to brand-new planets and onto the radar of new villains.

There are also plenty of secrets and side content for players to discover, including the Holotactics minigame that’s sure to eat up plenty of hours.

How to unlock Holotactics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor players can unlock Holotactics by completing The Odd Pair rumor on Koboh. This side activity can be found fairly early in the story by talking to Moran in Pyloon’s Saloon, who tells Cal about two strange characters investigating carcasses in a valley.

These turn out to be Bhima and Tulli, who will need to be saved from a Mogu. Once done, the duo will head back to Pyloon’s Saloon and set up a Holotactics table on the second floor, which can then be used at any time.

Holotactics is a relatively straightforward game in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as two players must use units to clear their opponent’s forces from the board. This is done by spending points to draft in ranged and melee units, the more points they cost – the more powerful they are.

Matches last anywhere between two and four rounds, and points replenish at the start of each wave. Players begin each round with 16 points, as well as leftovers from the previous round that carry over.

In order to be declared the winner, players must win each round one after another. Just one defeat will force them back to the start.

The good news is that any enemy that BD-1 scans while out in the world gets added to your units collection, meaning you’ll be able to call on them in Holotactics. So, if you’re struggling against a particular opponent, progress the story further to unlock better soldiers.

While Holotactics is a relatively simple game to play, you’ll need to get your strategy down to beat every opponent. Luckily, we’ve put together a few tips that should make things smoother:

Position your units carefully

While players can place their units anywhere on their side of the board, units behave differently depending on their category. Melee units will run straight at the opponent, while ranged characters will sit back and pick them off from afar.

With this in mind, you’ll want to keep ranged units on the back row, giving them more opportunity to damage rushing melee creatures before they reach them.

Don’t bunch units together

Along similar lines, it’s also vital to spread your units across the board Many units are armed with grenades capable of wiping out multiple characters in one shot, so putting some distance between them is a great way to ensure survival.

Save your points

While it can be tempting to throw all of your strongest units onto the field right away, Holotactics games are a marathon, not a sprint, so keep some points in your pocket for the later rounds.

This allows you to quickly turn the tide if you lose a few units, as well as adapt to any powerful beats your opponent has been saving.

Scan everything

The only way to grow your Holotactics collection is to scan defeated enemies when out completing missions. BD-1 will give you the option to learn about any new foe you kill, which then adds them to your pool of units.

This is also a nice incentive to try and fight any new and challenging enemies you run into in the wild, as they can make future rounds of Holotactics much easier to get through.
