Bamboo trees do not appear in your native Animal Crossing: New Horizons island which is why collecting them can be tricky. Here’s a guide to getting bamboo in the form of trees and shoots in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The Animal Crossing: New Horizons community love the diverse crafting items and bamboo is one of the most popular among them. Unlike several other plants, you can’t find it naturally on your island and there’s a limited number of ways to obtain it.
You can craft a ton of items with bamboo including bamboo flooring, bamboo partition, and bamboo walls. Moreover, with bamboo shoots, you can add bamboo trees to your island and harvest them infinitely.
On that note, here’s every major way to get bamboo in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Take a mystery island tour through Nook Miles ticket
Assuming that you’ve already paid the initial Deserted Island Getaway package in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, go to Dodo Airlines and use a Nook Miles Ticket. You’ll be taken to a random island and there’s a 10% chance of it being a bamboo island.

Make sure to bring sufficient shovels and fruits if you want to make the most of your bamboo island trip. Striking a tree with any type of axe will drop bamboo pieces or young spring bamboo and both of them are valuable crafting ingredients.
You’ll also find dig marks on the bamboo island and digging them will provide you with bamboo shoots. You can find five bamboo shoots per island and further use them to plant bamboo trees on your native island.
Bamboo shoots are also a crafting ingredient for some DIY recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Considering how many resources you can collect, your trip to a mystery bamboo island will definitely be worth the Nook Miles.
Purchase turnips from Daisy Mae
After purchasing some fresh turnips from the Daisy Mae NPC in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, she’ll send mail to you the next day and it’ll contain three bamboo shoots. It is important to note that Daisy Mae appears on your island only on Sundays between 5 AM and 12 PM.

If you miss out on buying turnips on a Sunday, use the in-game time travel feature and find Daisy Mae during the time mentioned above. Luckily, the number of turnips you buy won’t matter and even the smallest investment can help you get bamboo shoots from the NPC.
By planting these bamboo shoots on your island, you can grow bamboo trees and get other crafting ingredients like bamboo pieces and young spring bamboo as well.
Bamboo trees that are planted through shoots produce more shoots and you can collect them by using shovels on the dig spots near the tree.
Hence, a single trip to a bamboo island or purchasing turnips from Daisy Mae can help you grow the plant infinitely.
