The Ability Patch item in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a must-have for any Trainers interested in competitive Pokemon battles. Here’s how to get an Ability Patch in Scarlet and Violet.
Following the December 1 update in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, players could access the competitive Ranked Battles in the Battle Stadium. Whether you’re looking to climb the ladder or enjoy high-level Casual battles, you’ll want to obtain the Ability Patch item.
If your Pokemon aren’t up to competitive standards, you won’t stand a chance in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Battle Stadium. With the Ability Patch you’ll be one step closer to crafting the perfect Pokemon team, so here’s how to get it in Scarlet and Violet.
What is Ability Patch item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet?
The Ability Patch item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet allows Trainers to change the standard Ability of a Pokemon to one of its Hidden Abilities.
Most Pokemon you encounter in the wild will have a standard Ability seeing as they are the common variant of the two options. However, Hidden Abilities are usually much more powerful and thus difficult to come by.
Thanks to the Ability Patch item in Scarlet and Violet, Trainers can access a Pokemon’s Hidden Ability, so long as the species has one to swap to.
Players looking to find success with Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Battle Stadium should look to seek out several Ability Patch items. Unlocking your Pokemon’s Hidden Ability is a requirement of competitive battling.
For example, Corviknight’s Mirror Armor Hidden Ability which bounces back the stat-lowering effects that the Pokémon receives is much more useful than its Pressure standard Ability which raises the foe’s PP usage.
How to get Ability Patch item in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
- Complete all three Scarlet and Violet paths
- Rematch all eight Gym Leaders
- Win the Academy Ace Tournament
- Complete Mr. Jacq’s 5-Star Tera Raid Battles
- Find and complete a 6-Star Tera Battle
- Claim your Ability Patch as a reward
Ability Patch items are extremely rare rewards for defeating 6-Star Tera Raid Battles and completing the Academy’s Ace Tournament.
You can only access the Academy’s Ace Tournament after completing all three of the main story paths in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. To access the Academy’s Ace Tournament at the reception desk, you’ll first have to rematch all eight Gym Leaders at higher levels than your first attempt.
6-Star Raid Battles will only become available after completing the Ace Tournament at least once. In other words, getting Ability Patch items are best saved for Scarlet and Violet’s post-game.
Once the Tournament is complete Mr. Jacq will ask you to defeat several 5-Star Tera Raid Battles. Following their completion Trainers will find 6-Star Raids across Paldea.
