Struggling to play Modern Warfare 2’s campaign because of an unexpected error following a game update? We have a quick and easy solution to fix that MW2 locked campaign bug for you.

Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign was released a few days early and it allowed those who’d met the early access conditions to sample the full weight of the game’s story ahead of time.

We spoke highly of the MW2 campaign in our early access campaign review, and it’s had players wondering how to open every safe in the game, as well as how to answer all of El Sin Nombre’s questions correctly.

For some gamers though, the experience has been tainted somewhat because of an unexpected campaign bug that is locking them out of the game. There is a simple fix for this inconvenience though and it should have you enjoying MW2 again in no time.

How to fix Modern Warfare 2 campaign bug

If you find that you’re encountering this unfortunate bug, then the very simple way to circumnavigate it is to open up the options menu on your applicable platform.

The message pops up saying: “ERROR: Your data is corrupt or didn’t download properly. You must reset your rank and unlocks to continue. [Reason: NIAMEY – LEE].”

Infinity Ward became aware of the bug and quickly intervened to try and reassure players: “PlayStation players encountering a locked game tile or issue accessing campaign early access should open QUICK SETTINGS (options button) — and then back out.”

Doing so should prevent the bug error message from popping up and allow you to hop back into the game’s campaign.

Just to be 100% transparent if you’re having this happen to you:

  1. Check to see if you’re getting the error message described above.
  2. If so, press the menu button on your format e.g ‘OPTIONS’ on PlayStation.
  3. The game will now take you back to the applicable menu.
  4. You can continue with your Modern Warfare 2 adventure!

There are always bound to be the occasional hiccups during games, but at least there’s a nice and easy fix for this one.

We’ll have to see if Warzone 2 is also prone to any technical mishaps, but you can also take a look at leaks regarding Warzone 2’s anticipated DMZ mode.
