Enchantments in Minecraft are essential for upgrading and properly utilizing your tools and armor. In this guide, we’ll teach you how to enchant your tools, books, weapons, and armor in the game.

Everyone starts their Minecraft journey by collecting basic materials like iron and wood and making items like buckets, beds, and blast furnaces. However, with time and effort, you can proceed to use Netherite and Diamond tools and unlock potions and enchantments to further upgrade them.

There’s a wide range of enchantments in Minecraft that can be used on swords, armor, tridents, bows, and other tools and weapons. While some like Mending grant durability, others offer high damage.

On that note, here’s a guide that’ll teach you how to enchant your favorite tools, weapons, and armor in Minecraft.

Enchantment table in Minecraft

Items required to make an enchantment table in Minecraft & how to get them

You need the following items to make an enchantment table in Minecraft:

  • Book
  • 2x Diamond
  • 3x Obsidian Blocks

Books in Minecraft can be crafted with leather (obtained by killing cows) and paper (crafted with sugarcane).

Diamonds in the game spawn below the level Y=15. Once you’re below this level, the odds of finding Diamond Ore increases significantly.

Lastly, Obsidian is the hardest material in Minecraft that you can mine only with a Diamond pickaxe. It naturally generates when a source lava block comes in contact with a running water block.

How to craft an enchantment table in Minecraft

To craft an enchantment table in Minecraft, place a book in the middle slot of the topmost row of the 3×3 crafting grid. Then, fill the second row with two Diamonds on the edges and an Obsidian Block in the middle.

Lastly, fill the bottom row with Obsidian Blocks and the final crafting recipe should look like this:

How to use an enchantment table in Minecraft

You can enchant an item in Minecraft by putting it with Lapis Lazuli on an enchantment table. The tool/weapon/armor piece/book goes in the left slot of the table and 1-3 Lapis Lazuli goes in the right.

Upon doing so, three random enchantments will appear on the right side of the GUI. To confirm the enchanting process, you’ll need to spend levels (acquired through XP) and Lapis Lazuli.

If you’re running out of Lapis Lazuli, mine it with a stone pickaxe or better at levels Y=-32 to Y=32 and Y=-64 to Y=64. Lapis Lazuli ore looks like a standard stone block with dark blue bits.

As for levels, you can get a ton of XP by following this detailed list of the 10 best XP farms in Minecraft.

Bookshelves

You can get stronger enchantments in Minecraft by placing bookshelves around your enchantment table. A bookshelf can be crafted easily by placing three books and six planks in a 3×3 crafting grid.

With a fixed gap of one block, you can place 15 bookshelves around the enchantment table and upgrade the latter’s level to a maximum of 15. Over the years, a 5×5 pattern has become the standard for surrounding your enchantment table with bookshelves.

Anvil

An anvil in Minecraft lets you combine enchantments and grant multiple status buffs to your weapons at once. This is something that enchantment tables don’t allow and make anvils a must-have in your inventory.

You first need to enchant books through the table. Thereafter, add enchanted tools and books to an anvil to combine them. For more on this topic, make sure to check out this guide on how to make and use an anvil in Minecraft.
