We’re just days away from the release of GTA 5: Expanded & Enhanced on next-gen consoles. For those who want to play a remastered version of GTA Online, the good news is that it appears it will be free on PS5.

After years of hype, we finally know that Rockstar is working on Grand Theft Auto 6, although we have no idea when we’ll get our hands on it. In the meantime, we’re going to get another version of GTA V, with a remastered edition of the game coming to next-gen consoles.

Grand Theft Auto V: Expanded & Enhanced will see the game receive new additions, such as a seamless character transition tool, along with updated graphics for the PS5 and Xbox Series X.

If you don’t want to play through the game’s incredible story again though, you’ll be able to grab a free standalone version of GTA Online on PS5 for three months after the game releases.

How to get GTA Online: Enhanced on PS5 for free

GTA V: Expanded & Enhanced releases on Tuesday, March 15, and we expect that the remastered version of GTA Online will drop on the same day.

Unfortunately, at this time it seems that the GTA Online standalone will only be available on PS5, and not on Xbox consoles. To download the standalone when the game releases, players will need to:

  1. Turn on their PS5, and go to the PS Store.
  2. Search for GTA Online
  3. Select the GTA Online standalone game, and add it to your Library.
  4. Download the game.

Remember though, Rockstar have said this will only be available for three months, so make sure you get it before it’s removed from the store.

GTA V: Expanded & Enhanced comes with plenty of new features to make the game look even better, including new graphics modes which allow for 4K resolution, 60 frames-per-second capabilities, HDR options, and ray-tracing.

On top of that, players will also have the option to skip the prologue before playing GTA Online, and offers players the chance to restart their characters if they want. Rockstar have been very clear this won’t just be a “port,” with more features to be announced.

Don’t worry if you won’t be getting the new version of the game though, as Rockstar will continue to update their game with their GTA Online weekly patches.
