GTA 6 fans theorize Super Bowl 55 reveal after Vice City teases
Grand Theft Auto fans are always speculating on when we’ll see the next installment of the legendary franchise, and some have speculated that we could see a GTA 6 announcement during Super Bowl 55.
Since Grand Theft Auto 5 released over seven years ago, the only new content we’ve seen from Rockstar is DLC additions for GTA Online and a new title in Red Dead Redemption 2. Naturally, with time, players are starting to think ahead to the true future of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and when we might get our hands on it.
Since Super Bowl 54 last February, several fan rumors have arisen speculating that Rockstar was using Vice City references throughout the broadcast to allude to the setting of the next game. These theories are quite convincing, but over a year later, Rockstar has never confirmed they had anything to do with them.
In a Reddit post, user ItsTreDay1 gave a thorough explanation as to why he thinks we could see a reveal at the big game on February 7, and it’s based around The Weeknd’s Half Time Show performance in Florida.
“It’s taking place in Florida again, and The Weeknd is performing at half time,” he writes. “There were tons of rumors of him working with Rockstar last year when his album was announced.”
I could see a 15-30 second commercial of a car starting up, or a cinematic shot of whatever city the game takes place in followed by the Rockstar and GTA VI logo being a VERY SLIGHT possibility.”
The post does make some solid arguments, as it is true that The Weeknd has been linked with a GTA 6 announcement in the past, although the video that raised hopes online using his hit track Blinding Lights turned out to be a hoax.
He also believes that Rockstar’s alleged Super Bowl 54 Vice City teasers coming full circle in Super Bowl 55 would be an impressive “chess move in Rockstar’s marketing plan”. While it’s true that setting up a teaser a year in advance would be an incredible move, Super Bowl ads cost millions of dollars, and with GTA already one of the biggest gaming franchises in the world, would they spend so much money on teasers that didn’t even mention the game?
Of course, it’s not outside the realms of possibility, but with GTA fans so desperate for news on the next game in the series, it could be argued that they are creating links that don’t exist purely out of hope. Fans have resorted to drastic measures to uncover any information, including finding strange files in RDR2 that could pertain to GTA 6.
Thankfully, Super Bowl 55 takes place on February 7, so we won’t have long to wait to see if this prediction comes true.
