Weapon attachments are coming to Fortnite in a future update
Epic Games is introducing weapon attachments and abilities in the newest update of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 5.
A new Fortnite leak has surfaced that suggests a brand new mechanic in an upcoming update. It seems that Epic Games is testing out “Weapon Mod Slots” that will allow you to equip attachments on your guns.
There are various weapons that you can try out in Fortnite. Each one comes with its own set of stats, and some are more powerful than others. The worth of the weapon is determined by its rarity, and Season 5 introduced the brand-new Exotic variants.
You can’t customize or alter your guns with a new loadout in order to make them more deadly. However, it seems that Epic Games might be changing that soon. A new leak is pointing to a brand new weapons attachment system coming to Fortnite.
Weapon attachments coming to Fortnite
This information came from the reliable Fortnite leaker known as ‘HYPEX‘ in a twitter post on December 27. The leaker stated that Epic Games have started testing a new weapons mechanic called “Weapon Mod Slots.”
This new system will give you the ability to equip weapon abilities and attachments. You can view the leak below:
The new system sounds like a major change that can significantly alter the game. Up to this point, each gun’s stats in Fortnite were determined solely by their rarities. Now you’ll have more options, and will be able to select a loadout that suits you best.
This sounds similar to an existing mechanic within Fortnite’s Save the World experience. This allows you to craft weapons with special abilities that aren’t in the BR mode. The guns will retain the same rarities that they have in the Battle Royale.
The addition of the Weapon Mod Slots doesn’t mean that Epic Games will remove weapon rarities altogether. Especially since Exotic weapons were only added recently in Season 5. They will most likely combine the Save the World mechanic with Fortnite’s current BR weapon system.
We can expect a lot of other new content and mechanics with the upcoming update. The developers have already confirmed that we’ll soon see a “Disable Pre-edits” setting soon. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
