Fortnite 22.40 update patch notes: Octane vehicle, Grapple Glider, Big Battle LTM, more
Fortnite v22.40 will be the final update of both Season 4 and Chapter 3, bringing Rocket League’s Octane to battle royale, introducing the new Grapple Glider item, as well as the Big Battle LTM. Here are the full patch notes for Fortnite’s 22.40 update.
Fortnite Chapter 3 brought plenty of new additions to Epic’s battle royale but it’s become the shortest Chapter ever, ending after Season 4 on December 3. The final update ahead of the Fracture event has now arrived, bringing plenty of new content to the game.
Rocket League’s Octane has arrived alongside the Grapple Glider and Big Battle LTM, so here are the full patch notes for Fortnite’s 22.40 update.

Fortnite 22.40 brings Rocket League’s Octane
With Rocket League and Fortnite both owned by Epic Games, it was only a matter of time before the Octane made its way to battle royale, and it finally has in the 22.40 update.
After appearing in Creative, the fully functional Octane has now made its way to both battle royale and Zero Build playlists. Although “balanced for these modes,” it still has “rocket boosters, supersonic speed, and the ability to jump, double jump, dodge, take flight, and drive on walls!”
Grapple Glider arrives in Fortnite 22.40 update
As well as the Octane, Fornite’s 22.40 update brings the new Grapple Glider item to the game. Similar to the Batman Mythic, the Grapple Glider allows players to grapple into the air and then deploy a glider to fly across long distances.
They can be found all over the island but have limited uses, so the devs say “it’s not a bad idea to save your Grapple Glider for emergencies!”
Big Battle LTM in Fortnite 22.40 update
After the success of Team Rumble and 50v50, Epic Games are upping the action with the Big Battle Limited Time Mode in the Fortnite 22.40 update. Big Battle goes live at 10 AM ET on November 15, so don’t worry if the playlist is missing when you first log in.
This 40v40 Zero Build LTM has players spawn in with Uncommon-rarity loot, but Rare or higher loot can be found around the map.
Fortnite 22.40 update bug fixes
USE/INTERACT IMPROVEMENT ON MOBILE
On mobile, we have completely removed the Interact icon (hand icon) from the Fire button. Specific “Use” actions will now be represented by their own icon, meaning that, for example, eating and drinking actions will have their own icon now.
COMPETITIVE NOTES
- Octane is not included in competitive playlists.
MAJOR BUG FIXES
Also, a developer confirmed that Save the World’s Plasmatic Discharger will be nerfed with the 22.40 update, correctly labeling it as an Explosive Weapon, preventing it from doing “unintended damage to the Storm King’s Horn.”
