FIFA 23 promos to include Icons as leaks suggest Icon Moments will be removed from Ultimate Team
If leaks are to be believed, EA look set to remove Icon Moments from FIFA 23 in order to include legends in future Ultimate Team promos.
FIFA 23 is almost here, which means another Ultimate Team season is about to begin. While EA is looking to shake up the FUT formula with new features like FUT Moments and a more complex Chemistry system, it’s also looking to expand on ideas that are already in place.
Icons have become a remarkably popular piece of the Ultimate Team puzzle, and fans will be excited to see them return again in FIFA 23. Adding one of football’s all-time greats to your squad still comes with a buzz after all this time.
In previous FIFA titles, the usual Base, Mid, and Prime Icons have been improved later in the season with Icon Moments. These rare items featured higher ratings, boosted in-game stats, and a dynamic image based on a special moment in their career.
However, according to known FIFA leaker FUT Sheriff, FIFA 23 Icons could function much differently from previous years, as Icon Moments become a thing of the past.
If their reports are to be believed, EA will be taking cues from FUT Heroes and introducing Icons to FIFA 23 promos instead. These “Campaign Icons” will replace Moments and give the team more room to get creative with the types of cards they release.
It’s a system that worked well with FUT Heroes in FIFA 22, as the fan favorites showed up in a number of promos towards the end of the season, such as FUT Captains and Shapeshifters.
Players can look forward to a number of different Icon variants showing up over the course of FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, with Sheriff adding that the Campaign Icons will start with World Cup versions in November.
The leak appears to have gone down well among the community, with popular FIFA YouTuber Nepenthez tweeting that the concept is “much better” than what we saw in FIFA 22.
The Base, Mid, and Prime versions are expected to remain unaffected by the change, and should still be available from packs and SBCs, with Base and Mid cards included from day one.
EA are yet to comment on the reports, so it’s worth keeping in mind that this is still a leak until the developers make an official announcement.
